What’s your touing style? We’re the “vacation mode” group. Unless we have a breakfast booked, we’re slugs. I think I “accidentally“ did a rope drop a few years ago. DH wanted to golf so he dropped us off at AK at the crack of dawn (7:30!) DD and I strolled into a mostly empty park. Great day, but boy waking up early.... not my thing.

Used to be commandos, but when we got APs a few years ago, we started taking it easy, more like vacationish mode.

Don't set an alarm. Quick breakfast at resort. We do go to the parks in the morning, just not rope drop anymore. Do some rides. Get lunch. Head back to the pool or nap. Sit down dinner at a resort or a park. Close down whichever park we end up at. That last hour or 2 is prime roller coaster time.

Go go go all day. No matter if Disney or another vacation. I have a perfectly decent house that I can sit and relax in, no need to waste vacation time and the cost to relax on vacation ;)

I agree with this, though "commando" might not be my style. I do want to be there open to close to maximize my time and value, however I don't have to go, go, go every second. I can stop and smell the roses should I choose to - it just depends on what I want to do at that moment. I do not want to sleep in and spend a lot of time in my hotel room though!

Theme parks=rope drop commandos, at least for the first few days!
Even when we do Dollywood, and this past year on our first time at Busch Gardens, we were there early for 'rope drop,'. Even our beach trips involve getting out there early to get a spot.
And what's funny is, at home, NONE of us are morning people. common for all of us to sleep late (9,10 or later on the weekends.) I would LOVE to take a vacation where we can actually take it easy!

If we are talking Disney, "Rope drop commando". Other places, it depends, but more likely we are in "vacation mode".

Rope drop to close, no breaks, every day. None of my vacations, even non-Disney, are ever relaxing. Wouldn't do it any other way.

Yeah, we take breaks, but not going-back-to-the-hotel breaks. We'll spend a couple hours in Trader Sam's/Nomad Lounge/etc., which is relaxing while still feeling like I'm doing things.

rope drop......but not commando.
The best time is early before lines get long.
Then we slow down and usually leave when crowds build, and go back to the resort 1-2 o'clock

I picked Rope Drop Commando, because that's what we were for all of our previous trips. I think this next trip we have planned might be more easygoing. Stop and smell the roses.

It depends on which park last time we rope dropped HS for RoR and AK for Fop. we do a combo and enjoy resorts days along with park days.

Commandos from RD to shopping after the parks are closed.
We also do not go back to the resort so we have to be strategic about clothes and park essentials.

We’ve been enough times that it’s not about the parks so much anymore. It’s about relaxing. We never do rope drop. We usually get to a park by 10 and then head back to our resort late afternoon and enjoy some pool time and adult beverages. Sometimes we head back out to a park or to explore other resorts, sometimes we don’t and we just have dinner at the resort and chill the rest of the evening. It’s all about just being in the bubble.

We hit the parks early, then head back to the resort about 1pm. Relax for lunch and pool time for a few hours then back to the parks.

I'm an early riser even on vacation so I'm usually awake around 6 or so. I'll get up, get a cup of coffee and just lay around for awhile. I get to the parks when I get to the parks. In over 38 years of going I've maybe done rope drop 5 or 6 times and that wasn't on purpose. I was just up so thought why not. In the before times I would decide what park to go to in the morning when I was getting ready or go to the bus stop and hop on the first bus to come. If that park was too full, I'd just hop to another one. Now I make a reservation knowing I'm not going to stay in the first park longer than 2, most times I leave around noonish and go back to the resort and rest or swim then go to a different park that afternoon/evening. I ride as few or as many rides as I'm in the mood for. I never made FPs in advance when they were available, if there was one for a ride I wanted to ride within half hour from when I was getting off a ride I'd make one but otherwise I just stand in line. I'm a real laid back park goer. Always have been, we started going when my son was just shy of 3 and with a little one you need to be able to adjust on the fly. Just got used to doing it that way. I go solo a lot now, sometimes my son will come with me, sometimes not. Hubby has only been once, he's not a fan.

So I have spent decades working on my feet in food service. I was a baker for years and went into work at 3am, went home and did housework, cooked dinner, took care of the kids, etc. My vacations have never been go go go, because I do that in my day to day life. I do not cook on my vacations and I sure as heck am not setting an alarm. My kids are adults now but I have been going solo for year and I sleep in, leisurely drink my coffee and get ready, go to the parks and walk around for a while, eat some lunch, maybe go on a ride or two, walk around some more or sit and people watch, eat, etc. One of the main reasons why I love WDW so much is that I don't have to worry about anything. I don't have to drive, I don't have to cook or clean, I don't really have to worry about anything. To me, vacations are supposed to be about taking you away from your day to day life.
