Touring plans and lines?

When we went to WDW last year, I found it really helpful using the touring plans site to put plans together for the day. I know they have a version for DL as well and I'm wondering if anyone has ever used it before, or is there another resource that helps you with touring plans?

We already plan to use early morning admission (staying on site) and will be skipping some rides like California Screamin since my DD is not a coaster fan.

I've never used touring plans, but i do recommend Disneyland Daily on Facebook (she has a site too). Casey maps out the best way to utilize your time in the park.

Thanks I've seen her website and I'll start following her FB page. I think I'm just used to all the major planning that goes into a WDW trip.

The DL Lines app is nowhere near as useful as the one for WDW, and DL doesn't need quite as much touring planning as WDW does, to TP isn't as necessary. That said, if you have the book, it only costs, like, $6 for a year's subscription, so it's not like it's expensive.

Don't trust Turing plans when it comes to their crowd predictions. They are wrong more often than not.

I used touring plans/lines for my first trip to DL and I found it useful when I was planning to give me a general idea of which areas to hit in which order.

But as for using the app in the parks, I couldn't. They didn't (still don't officially) have WiFi in the parks and my signal was so bad that I could never get it to load. I think there are enough other resources out there to help you put together a general plan and @Winnowill is correct that DL definitely does not require as much planning as WDW so that should be just fine for you.

I follow the Touring Plans every trip and re-optimize through Lines frequently. While their crowd calendars can be off I find the plans very accurate and we easily accomplish 15-20 attractions each day, usually before 3pm.

Me, too. Although sometimes I end up just using it as a guide and not following it exactly. I also use the DL app once in the parks for checking wait times.

There is another. Ridemax. I have used it many times but not in recent years.

Expect it to always be crowded. I use to believe that the end of August early September was best, but now they have a marathon during that week.

Now I would say August 13th - 20th is a good bet for lower crowds due to the lower tiered Annual Passes being blocked out.
The following week, August 21-25 will be quite bad.

The general wisdom for "which day which park" is whether you have EMH (hotel) or EE (multi-day ticket) privileges. If you have them, start with that park if you can get there during that early time. If not, start at the park without EMH/EE to have an even paying field. The other factor (more applicable in the off season) is what nights certain entertainment runs.

I don't think it hurts to compare your plans with Touring Plans as an idea, but the in-park app is inaccurate (too few people posting actual wait times). And with Guardians of the Galaxy newly open and little data to go on, I think anyone's guess is going to be as good as theirs for this first summer.
