This is our first trip. 4 adults. We have a rental car and have a few days where we will visit different parts of the island, stopping at beaches and other points of interest. I'm wondering how to pack for these day trips. Ill bring a small cooler, sunscreen, etc but do you guys just bring towels or do you buy cheap beach chairs while there? Im reading all these trip reports where people stop at beaches but no one says how or if they were prepared :)

You can just grab towels from the pool but and take those. We have a large zip cooler that we take with water bottles and snacks. Those plus sunscreen and towels are all we take.

Yes, if we are going early we bring towels up from the pool the night before and then I return them when we get back. I also have a cheap blanket I got from one of the airlines a few years back and I bring that to set our stuff on at the beach. I either buy or bring a small cooler and freeze some water bottles in the room to keep everything cold.

We took these:

We went for 14 days, so I wanted to be comfortable. Plus DH doesn’t snorkel, so I really wanted him to be comfy while he lounged waiting for us. We packed these in the bottom of a large (not oversized) rolling suitcase with our snorkel gear, water shoes, soft side cooler, and chamois (swimmers) towels. The chair has a small cooler bag attached too.

1. Blanket or sheet that doesn’t have any pockets, seams, etc. that sand can get stuck in. This is to sit on.

2. Several towels per person.

3. Sunblock

4. Insulated water bottle filled with only ice.

5. Couple of gallon-size bottled water to fill our bottles and wash feet before getting in the car. Beaches have showers, but it’s amazing how much sand, grass, and dirt accumulate on your legs/feet on the walk from the shower to the car.

6. Extra clothes because sitting in wet swimsuits feels gross.

7. Deodorant. If your first swim is at 10am and you’re in the sun all day ... 😳

Exactly!! We brought lightweight swimmer type towels that we just used on our bodies—never let them touch the sand. Used hotel towels for that LOL And I actually brought a roll of paper shop towels (google it if you don’t know) for cleaning off all that dirt and stuff we’d pick up hiking or just, like you said, between the shower and the car! Kept us and our rental car much cleaner. I also had a sandwich bag full of plastic grocery bags for our trash and said towels. (I was a little embarrassed to admit I’m that anal, but a local who doesn’t want to trash their own stuff would totally understand!!)
