I know there will be loads but we are looking at booking for October 2009 and were specifically looking at having a first week starting by a flight to Miami, do whatever takes our fancy whilst travelling up and taking a fortnight in Orlando.
What are peoples experiences of this? I am sure i have readt that having the tour on week one is preferential but do not know the best places to head for. We have 2 kids that will be 10 and 8. I do want to go to St Augustine before we get to Orlando though.

Thanks

Hi Rob,

Think a tour is a great idea and is something we have done though not for a few years.

It could depend ultimatley on how much driving you want to do and whether you want to see both coasts?

The advantage of the east coast is you have Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach all within easy reach.
It's a shopper's paradise along here too, and may be more going on for the kid's.
St Augustine is also on this side though obviously further up, but you do have the likes of Daytona and Vero Beach up here too.

West coast is quieter but classier - Naples in particular is very nice, but not a lot going on.
The beaches are also better (in my opinion) , especially Clearwater and St.Pete's.
Sanibel and Captiva are also well worth a visit if you are in the area.

I would say it would be best maybe doing the tour before Orlando also.
It could also depend on how many nights you choose to stay at each location and whether you want to book in advance?

Thanks for your reply fella, good to speak after a while. I think Sarah wants to save money by not getting a flex and Disney ticks. Makes sense in a way as plenty of flight options and new places to visit.
Like the avatar, if the kid played for "some other team" then nobody would shut up about him!

Nice to speak to you again mate -you are definitely right about 'the kid' - we just need a couple of others now ;)

Visiting new places is always great and makes a nice change from Orlando.
