Agreed. This singular reallocation will not solve all the challenges that presently exist around availability. But what it does do is allow that family that may lose a day in November to potentially gain one in May. What it allows is for us to make a choice to travel another time of year that could save more points than continuing the current choices we make now which a lot of owners are making.I don't think it has a lot of effect in 2021, but because of the 20% limit it has to be incremental. We are definitely already seeing/hearing people lamenting losing a day or two in fall. Across 7 weeks, if a bunch of people 'lose' days, a week opens up, basically. So that is something.
But the fall events (party season, decent weather once hurricanes pass, F&W, runDisney) will take a more extreme reallocation to have summer become similarly attractive. I think a lot of people would argue that a few more points for November is preferable to August. Summer is unlikely to pick up much in the way of events, because it is not a good time for things like runDisney, heavy eating, incitement to drink, dressing up, etc. Summer will have to be pretty cheap to compete. And that's a multi-year progression.
I will take this all day over a reallocation that offers no such alternative. Last year, the Disney logic was that points costing more across the board will reduce the number of days one can stay and open up availability to others. But without an option to stay another time to preserve your usual point usage, it was a perverse interpretation of how to best address member needs.
While no reallocation will be perfect, this one at least doesn’t line Disney’s pocket at the expense of all owners in the name of better “serving the membership.”
