Total devastation

Im absolutley devestated I went to a friends house yesterday who has a huge garden and as always my dog Merlin came with me (Its his second home he stayed there for a week in August) Hes a Border collie and loves running so he does it as usual then he comes in and sits down (You usually have to drag him in)
He then gets up and walks slowly to the car I think theres something strange here he wants to go home so I take him he very slowly gets in the house and gets in his bed I thought maybe hes picked up a bit of flu So I give him a stroke and leave him and thought ill phone the vet maybe,I came back in to check and found hes died.I couldnt/still cant take it in he was only 22 months old not 2 till Christmas ,Im a 40 year old guy and Ive not cried for years but Ive not stopped since my wifes the same
but the worst bit is telling our daughters who loved him so much our eldest who is 11 has took it really bad,Its going to take time..but they cant understand why hes gone
Hes now at the vets to be cremated and its looking like a bad heart attack or a stroke which obviously no one knew about as hes never had surgery
Everything is just so strange the house is different as im typing this hes not by my feet,weve decided to carry on as normal so we dont think about it ts such a shame as we was a great behaved dog I pointed and made various noises and he knew exactly what I was saying...

Oh Ian, I'm so, so sorry to hear your news.

They're not just dogs - they're members of the family.

Sounds like Merlin has had a wonderful life - try and remember that. It's so unfair, especially since he was so young, but at least he didn't linger and suffer with an illness. He went to sleep happy from his time with you in your friend's garden, probably still wagging his tail in his sleep from his adventures .

I know how you are feeling Ian, my dog died of a heart attack a couple of years back, she was fine one minute & then the next thing our other dog came running in from the garden barking. We went out there and she was lying on our patio.

We had her cremated & her ashes are buried in the garden as she always loved sitting out there.

It is hard at 1st but it does get better. Hugs to the family

Thanks everyone for the kind comments and thoughts,we are struggling. trying to work out why he went so young,He was barely out of puppyhood
My eldest is crying all night and Im not far behind,keep expecting to see him and all his mannerisms are a big loss to the house He was one of the family we used to say 3 Females and 2 Males
Thanks Kaylee for the poem its great My Daughter has printed it ans shes read it a few times overnight.
