So far I've been too chicken (due to motion sickness) to ride TOT, but would like to see the pre-ride "show". Is it worth going through the line to see and is there a convenient chicken exit? Thanks. :)

Yes there is. You go through the preshow and then right before you get on the elevator, tell the cast member that you don't want to ride and he or she will put you on the express elevator.

Bump...... :goodvibes I'd like to have this question answered too. I had a panic attack and embarrased the life out of myself before I even entered it :scared: and haven't gotten the nerve to try it again. I might ask my DH if her remembers.

Being a fan of the Twilight Zone tv series I enjoy the pre ride show every time. There is an appearance by an actor that looks and sounds just like Rod Serling. If you are also a fan of the series, by all means see it once, its not that long and you will appreciate the video. The que line is also superbly done to put you in the mood and yes, there are exits for those that do not wish to take the plunge. But, you just have to do it once! The ride I mean.

I just wanted to add that It probably isnt worth it if the wait is more than 15 min or so.

I admit I'm not at all a fan of the freefall sensation. I prefer centrifugal force on a thrill ride (give me a coaster loop over a drop anytime!). But I thought I should, just once, ride ToT on our recent DL trip.

So I did. And now I've done it and I don't have to do it again.

The queue is amazing and very, very well done. I certainly appreciated that part. That said, I can't imagine queueing and not riding. Just me, of course.

I did introduce myself to the young man seated on my right, since I thought it was only right if I was going to grab him in my terror. :rotfl: He was about 20 and thought I was a little nutso. :rotfl: But I felt better about it anyway! DH was seated on my left--there was NO WAY I was going on that thing by myself!!

I might, in a few years, ride the WDW version, since it differs just a tiny bit from DL. But again, I won't be doing it by myself. And I'm going to FP it and wait until it's WALK-ON so I don't scare myself silly waiting around for it. (Why isn't there a chicken smilie on this board?!)

Bahk, bahk, bakaw! (that's my chicken sign-off :teeth: )

When we were there last week a boy of about 6 or 7 started screaming the minute the lights dimmed and they let him out before getting on the ride. Our 4 year old rode it for the first time and loved it. I thought he may have been a bit feaked out by the older child screaming, but he was so excited to finally be tall enough to ride it, it didn't phase him. I get very, very ill from any kind of spinning ride (tea cups, etc) but didn't feel sick at all on TOT.

Nope, that IS Rod Serling HIMSELF on the screen.

The ToT ride producers scoured the old Tzone show opens to find one that's footage "worked" with what they were trying to do.

They then "rotoscoped" Mr. Serling ("cut around him" in the film, frame-by-frame) so his moving image could be placed (via special effects) into a shot of the elevator loading area.

However, the VOICE is completely replaced by the number-one Serling voice impressionist.
He has been chosen by the late Rod Serling's WIFE as the man who most-closely SOUNDED like Rod.

The voice actor "lip-synced" to the old Serling footage so Rod's mouth is in perfect sync with the new voice.

The film cuts away from Rod right as he says, "...maintenance service elevator." Because in the original Tzone show open, he was NOT introducing a segment about elevators... so from that exact moment on, the lip-sync would not be right.

BTW, in an episode of the TV series "Medium" earlier this season, the producers shot a show (partly) in 3D.
As this show's opening segment, they chose to use a Rod Serling intro from an old Tzone episode.
(The producer must have just ridden ToT at Disney's California Adventure. ;) )

They hired the SAME voice-actor who we hear at ToT to re-create Rod's voice speaking the new custom script written to go with the 3D "Medium" show.
This time however, they used "computer animation" to RE-FORM the image of Rod's MOUTH to FIT the new script.

It worked pretty well.

I was about to point that out too Robo,I'm a big fan of The Twilight Zone and I think it's great how they've done it.

Robo,
Thanks for correction and the interesting info. No wonder I thought it was a great impersonation! You cant do much better than the real deal and they did a great job with the editing.

I don't really think that it's worth waiting in line to see the pre show. Also, I think you might actually need to wait through the whole line in the boiler room and take the chicken exit right before you get in the elevator.

Honestly, I enjoy waiting in line for TOT because there is so much to look at; both inside and out.

The drops on the ride aren't all that bad. I thought motion sickness is more brought on from spinning rather than just dropping; so maybe you'd be ok?

As a (former) worrier about the dropping sensation and (former) worrier about motion sickness on TOT, let me tell you that I have NO problem at all it this ride. I thought for SURE it would make me sicker than a dog :dog2: NOPE, not even QUEASY!!! I did it, I love it, I have to keep doing it!!!!

I totally loved TOT. I would try it if you are at all, even the tiniest bit thinking about it. Mission Space made me feel totally sick, and even the little coaster at toontown was a little unsettling, but TOT was all fun.

The cast members working that ride have quite the personalities...be careful that they don't make a big production and embarrass you for taking the 'chicken exit'...that being said you really ought to give the ride a shot!

It doesn't make you queasy at all...sure you may be nervous (I always am and its my favorite ride!) but thats the fun of it! Hope you give it another thought :sunny:

Since almost all of question has been answered, I thought I'd add a helpful tip.

If you go on the ride (please do!) it's very easy to not experience the free-falling sensation. Put your seatbelt on extra tight, and during the drops, make your stomach push out and your feet flat in front of you. It really helps. And trust me, the queue line is only HALF of the experience. ;)

Hope that helps!

So does this ride only drop you, or does it drop then go up and drop again? Any if it does go up, is it a slow up or fast up (I know the drop is quick).

Its ALL of the ABOVE.

Slow up.
Fast down.
Fast up.
Pauses.
Wiggles.
Fast-Slow-Fast.
(You don't just drop ONCE, either... Muaaahhhh- Haaaa- Haaaaaaaa!)

AND...
EACH time you ride it will likely be a totally DIFFERENT experience as the ride's motion, visual and other effects are chosen by the ride computer to be a different COMBINATION each time.

ToT is a GREAT thrill-ride.
We go in the early morning and ride at least 3 times in a row.
Different "drop experience" each time.

I finally went on Tot last year after year after year of chicken out going to the ride. Lol the first drop is a doozie! :rotfl2: I was screaming and laughing all the way down and up. :rotfl:

I don't think you can get off after you go through the boiler room-thats where the really great stuff begins including the ghosts & window etc. then the drops.

My mom was always afraid to go on the ride because she *had* a bad back. Had being the operative word. She finally went on it, had some pain killers in her bag just incase. Half way through the second drop she said "Oh!" and when we got off, she pulled me to the side and said. My back, doesnt hurt anymore. ( It used to always hurt her) . So not only is it a great ride but it heals too. :earsboy:
