I am NOT a coaster/big drop person. I'm just not. I hate the feeling, and it just puts me off for the rest of the day. That being said, I really want to see the queue for TOT. My husband has been telling me for years how awesome it is. I have been considering going all the way to the end and using the Chicken Exit. Has anyone done this? I feel silly doing it as an adult, but I really would like to see the queue!

I don't do it, but there is no reason that you should feel silly about doing it. When you reach the loading area, just say you'd like to go up the (real) elevator.

Our DD chickened out right before we were to get on the elevator - the CM said she was fine to wait right there on beside the doors for my DH and I to ride - that we would be coming right back there so we did that and they acted like they do that frequently.

Yes, I took the chicken exit when I was pregnant. It's a real elevator between the two ride-elevator banks. It lets off in the area where the ride photos are and IIRC there are benches there for you to wait.

I agree no reason to feel silly! Why deny yourself the chance to check the queue out? That's the magic of Disney - everything is so much more than just the ride. The atmosphere is what makes it so much fun, and you can still enjoy that part of things!

We used the exit elevator when my 80 year old mom was with us . She wanted to stay with us and see the inside but not do the actual ride. It worked great!

DW almost always accompanies me in the TOT queue, but often chickens out before the ride. Nobody makes a fuss if you want to exit. It happens dozens of times a day.

TOT's queue is one of Disney's best. Go enjoy it!

I will never forget when I used the chicken exit @ TOT with my dad when I was younger. It had to have been a few years after it opened and my younger brother wanted to ride so badly. So we stayed with him in the queue then when it was time to get on, I chickened out so a CM took me and my dad through the chicken exit. In the elevator the CM said, in his best TOT voice, "Are you sure you don't want to stay for dinner, I hear we are having chicken tonight?" I was terrified lol Needless to say, it is now one of my favorite rides!! :)

My son and I did the chicken exit last week. He learned on this trip that he loves roller coasters but hates surprises and creepiness, so the TOT queue really got to him. (but I was glad to see it!)

My friend and I aren't coaster fans either and we did exactly what you want to do. Went through the entire line and right before we loaded into the actual ride told the CM who was loading the ride. They just had us stand aside and wait for another CM to take us back down in a normal elevator.

What other rides have chicken exits?
Rockin roller coaster?
Space Mountain?
Big thunder?
Everest?
Dinosoar?
I have 4 kids and one of them is a "chicken" so to speak

It is my understanding that EVERY ride will allow you to opt-out. They cannot make you board a ride vehicle you do not want to board. Some of the exits may be more elegant than others, but no CM should refuse you a "chicken exit" for any reason.

I've done the chicken exit with my DD - she was 5 at the time and the queue completely freaked her out and she would not get on the ride even though she enjoys that type of ride. They let me take her out to her dad and then come back in the same way that we left and I got right on the ride.

Too bad they don't have a second chicken exit. That way people could see all the Twilight Zone effects, and then skip the dropping elevator.

Yeah, it would disrupt the ride, so my idea is completely unrealistic...but it'd be nice for chickens to experience the non-drop part of the ride.

Every ride at every amusement/theme park has chicken exit. Just tell a CM that someone has decided not to ride and they will direct you to the exit.

I did it for five years nursing a broken neck. In my words, DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I rode it before and I'm riding it again (after consultation with my doctor - still broken but I can do coasters). But those five years are such a pleasant memory. To see Rod Serling, to experience the boiler room, to see some of the people being loaded onto the elevators. Then to be whisked away in your own elevator to wait. Less than ten minutes and then to see the riders coming off. WOW! That's all I can say. WOW! You will see football player-types cringing while ten year old girls scream "let's go again!".

For those five years, the Twilight Zone no ride ride was the best.
