As of yesterday's news conference, I am undecided on whether buying into DVC is the right thing to do. Now, I'm not the type who will panic about everything and have remained really calm about everything that has gone on. It's just that another serious terrorists attack in our nation and who knows what will happen.

At the same time, I feel like, "Live for today" because I know that none of us know what tomorrow will bring. For those who just purchased DVC, how do you feel about your decision?

Thanks!

I'm not upset about my DVC purchase. I won't let this stop us. Enjoy your vacation! With DVC it's a first rate experience. And enjoy the time you spend in Disney with your kids. I find it a great opportunity to get a way from the computers, the tv and the news and just enjoy the dining, the music and the whole package. I don't plan to change anything and will go for 2 weeks enjoying the pools, vero beach ocean and the time with the family. I especially look forward to the new parades and learning more about Walt in his 100 year celebration. You can't be FANTASMIC or ILLUMINATIONS!

What is your concern? If you feel that the expense of DVC at this time is not a good idea because it will stretch the budget, then it would make sense to wait. Our economic outlook has gone from excellent to uncertain and it's best to spend wisely.

If the concern is worry about or a desire not to travel, that should pass. Do you plan to stay at home for the next year, two years, ten years? When you do begin to travel again, will it be to WDW?

No one knows what the future holds. Any number of things could happen to you that would make it impossible for you to use DVC for a year or two or maybe even ever. And they have nothing to do with the terrrorist attacks. You might be taken ill, divorce, etc. , etc.

Think it over again. All the reasons that you thought DVC was a good idea before are still there. The only legitimate concern would be a change in your financial outlook. However, if your emotions also say no, that is your decision. You have to be comfortable.

I hope everyone's concern doesn't cause the new BCV to be offerred with a substantially larger MB offer (15-20$ per point?? :-0 ) due to expected low sales, and people's vacationing concerns.

I'll end up buying much more add-on points than I should thinking I shouldn't pass up the great deal which I see lasting another 40+ years....

Follow your heart, there is no rush. DVC will be here when you are ready to purchase. Some of your decision may rest on the availability of the resort you want as your home resort. If it is WVL, or Vero Beach ... there is a timing issue regarding your purchase, especially for add-ons. However, I think you'll be able to find good deals in the point amount you want as resales when you are ready. One can already find WL points in the resale market.

This is just another chapter in our country's long history. It is not going to last for 40 years (the length of your contract) unless we all make too much of it. This period has just served as a reminder of what was around all along. Don't let the few dictate your life decisions or you will miss a great deal of happiness.

We just bought in last November and are scheduled to take our first trip in 3 weeks.

Right now, I am feeling a little worried over the fact that we bought in jsut because of all of the cutbacks. Wondering how much more will happen. If I needed to sell it would it be easy to sell at this point? Who would want it with all of the cutbacks? Would I lose money on the deal, etc? All of these thoughts are going through my head right now.

However, on a different note, we haven't even been "home" yet and all of these worries can change after we arrive and return back from our trip.

So technically I'm not going to fret about my decision to buy in until after we arrive back in about 4 1/2 weeks. I'll let you know at this time if I regret buying DVC. (Hopefully the answer will be NO WAY!!)

Great advice from everyone, I just wanted to address your last "Live for today" comment.

As PamOKW said, you shouldn't go out and do anything rash because of recent events if it would cause a financial problem. Likewise, you can't live your life in a tortoise shell.

To me, trips to WDW are even MORE important than they were before. Spending time with family, taking nothing for granted, and cherishing each moment are all more focused than before 9/11.

The fact is, you are much more at risk of physical harm if you drive car pool for the kids or drive to work than you are from terrorists. I know that is a statistical truth that does not take into account the psychological horror of random attacks, but you have to let the "logic" side of your persona have some influence over the "emotional" side. Otherwise, you are stuck in gridlock.

We have our two trips already booked for next year and will be going and making new memories.

Best wishes with coming to grips with these difficult circumstances.

Tink: I'm in the same boat as you. We were seriously looking into purchasing as well as looking into building a new home. I just don't know if the time is right to do such things. The ecomony isn't going to get any better for a while especially with all these threats. Just when I think I have myself convinced to do it, something else changes my mind. I keep wondering, am I just having a case of the "want mes" or do we really need it right now?

The new case of inhalation anthrax by the hospital worker is scary. She has no ties to the postal service (except that maybe she received mail with it). Time will tell. We've never been faced with anything quite like this and no one is certain what to do or how to react.

I am, however, glad we went to WDW a few weeks ago. It was nice to forget, somewhat, everything that is going on. We did, however, listen to the news every night to keep updated.

The other "Tink"...

I was just curious as to how others were feeling about their DVC purchases. I'm sure I will not regret it, we love Disney so much. And don't worry Granny, I wouldn't doing anything rash. What I mean by, "Live for Today" is that we are not promised tomorrow and we should live each day to its fullest. But not out looting and spending, etc.

Thanks for all of your answers, you have been a BIG help!
My papers should be here Thurs. or Fri.
