As Topaz Labs figured, after the 30 day trial I paid for the license! Topaz is fun but what really sold me was a number of photos I had to take through a somewhat hazy window. With a few Topaz adjustments most of the photos appear as if there was no window! Maybe I can do a lot of that myself in PS but Topaz is worth the $$$ just for the time savings.

I'm not so happy to hear this, Bob. I was saving my free trial of Topaz for after we return from Disney in December and was hoping I could process them and not have any desire to buy the full license. I guess I can probably throw that plan out the window....:rolleyes1

I am a total Topaz addict ;). It is amazing how simple the software is to use and how much more the photograph can pop! Have you made your way over to the Topaz forum? There is tons of inspiration over there :thumbsup2.

There is a Topaz forum on here?:confused3

No, they developed their own forum. It started up less than a month ago. I got an email about it. I'm assuming I got the email because I've purchased through them and it was just a mass emailing.

I'm right there with you on this one, I downloaded the free trial a few weeks ago to try it on the pics from my photo shoot with the pirates from the PA ren faire, it didn't take long for me to decide I'd be buying a license for the program..it's awesome,

and as you stated the time saving is worth it,,

that's why I like Portrait Professional,, I'm sure I could do all the same stuff with paint shop pro, but being able to clean up a portrait in a few short minutes is well worth the price of the program..

Yeah...I fell for that trick months ago. Great program, lots of fun, and usable from mild and realistic recoveries to far out crazy HDR-style fantasy looks.

I went ahead and got the 4-pack (at the time...it may be a 5 or 6 pack now), and also have a very high level of love for Denoise3. It is faster than their previous denoise program, but still slower than many others...but it can clean up photo noise while retaining detail quite unlike any other noise reduction program I've seen. They are using a completely different analyzation and removal process than the usual noise reduction gang, and though slower to process, it is really very good.

Also fun is Detail...which is like a very advanced sharpening and contrast adjustment tool. It has some overlapping funtionality with Adjust, but goes beyond in allowing for manipulation of sharpness, edge detail, and contrast enhancement.

they currently have a discount code for 20% off the topaz bundle, good till november 30

I just downloaded the trial version........my Christmas list keeps getting longer and longer :sad2:

Just another "service" provided by your friends on the DisBoards Photography board! ;)

:confused3 I have a dumb question do you have to have Photoshop to use topaz? Right now the only thing I have is Paint.net

Thanks

You can use it with anything that supports photoshop plug ins. I'm currently using it with Paint Shop Pro X2. The only thing is I have to convert the 16 bit tiff file to 8 bit for it to work.

Topaz is for wimps. First, you can do all that stuff in Photoshop itself if you learn how to use it properly. Second, you should be getting it right in the camera and not trying to correct your mistakes aftewards anyway. Finally, real digital photographers don't fall back on software as a crutch...they use a hex editor to make any necessary changes. Total control, baby. There ain't nothing you can do with your fanciest software, most expensive lenses, or schmanciest sensors that can't be done with a hex editor, some talent, and a bit of time.

why not just use a hammer & chisel , I'm sure you can find some nice rocks in Texas to carve your pictures into.

I hadn't heard of Topaz Adjust until I saw this thread last week. And because you all were giving it such rave reviews, I had to look into this magical program. The more I read about it, the more impressed I was...especially considering all it does for the price.

And now, even more reason to put it on my holiday wish list: Scott Kelby added this to his 4th Annual Holiday Gear Guide!

(oh, and he's got a lot of other great photography-related holiday gifts, too) :)
