Top Secret Pixie Dust! A Surprise 13th Birthday PTR! NEW! TRIP REPORT LINK PAGE 220!

I had no idea those bracelets are such the thing... the girls have a pack, but are too little to care!

Lucky! They are quite the rage with Chelsea's and Connor's age groups!

I am interested in all the fun you have planned at HH. I bet they have tons of resort activities too.

I do know there are lots of resort activities, and I have been making lists of activities and places to eat. I think we will have fun!

Two weeks... I am jealous!

It can't come soon enough for me!

Moving rooms is no fun, but the cuts in teaching everywhere make us realize we are lucky I guess to still be employed.

That's what I keep telling myself. :thumbsup2

Happy Mothers Day!

Happy Mother's Day to you, too!

Zach has just discovered those bracelets recently... I saw a girl this week who had about 50 on each arm! :scared1:

I'm sure you guys will find plenty to do at HH!

Some of the kids at our school have crazy amounts of them!

I think we will be fine -- I am just a little nervous because I'm so used to having TONS of activities to choose from at Disney.

Jackie, I have seen those bracelets around here. So I have a good idea what they are....
Shall I keep an eye out for you while we are down there?
I'd be more than happy to grab some up if I see them.
Just let me know...

Yes, please! That would be great! I could surprise the kids with them in their trip bags! I will gladly pay for them and the shipping and handling! :thumbsup2

I like Chelsea's logic.

It's like no other!

I love how Chelsea wants to go to Disney to shop!
I've seen those bracelets here. The technology teacher and school nurse give them out for birthdays.
If you don't get to Disney this summer (there's still time to change your mind ;)) I'd be happy to ship some to you in August.

Disney does have good shopping. LOL!

If Wigd can't find the bracelets, I may take you up on the offer. Thanks! :goodvibes

I feel so uncool, I have no idea what bracelets you are talking about. :rotfl:

Well, we aren't really in the target age bracket for them. :lmao:

I understand you not wanting to take Chelsea up on her offer. It's hard decision to make because I wouldn't want to deal with the crazy crowds or hot hot hot weather either. Been there, done that.

Exactly -- and we know how brutal that central Florida heat can really be -- at least in Hilton Head there are ocean breezes.

I'm like you though, the Beach vacation doesn't always appeal to me because I'm not one that can sit in the sand and be happy for an entire week. I need to have plans and things to do, that is more relaxing for me. Weird but true.

Me too! You should see me making lists of things to do. LOL!

I think it's a good idea to research some activities, there has got to be lots of fun stuff to do around there. :thumbsup2

The resort has lots of stuff which you know I am all about.

Those silly bracelets are now banned from my son's 5th grade class, in fact I think they are banned from the entire school...period! Ohh but Andrew would be sooooo tempted to go back to Disney just to score a pack of those babies. He went out with my neighbor and her kids last night to Target, and they stopped at Hallmark where he then borrowed the mom's phone to ask if he could borrow $10 from her to buy to packs of those silly bands because apparently they got in some rare ones...this is insane! I wish I would have invented those little suckers...I'd be rich! I am sure Andrew would love to trade with Chelsea, he has tons of doubles!

I can't believe the silly bandz have been banned at your son's school. That's funny!

Anyhow in regards to HH I was looking into the Disney resort and wondering if this resort is located on the beach, or some type of bay. When I was reading about the resort it seemed to be a little bit away from the beach, or maybe on it's own beach. We really want to do that , hopefully this summer. Andrew and DH like to fish and apparently there is fishing on the resort. I cant wait to hear about your HH trip. Oh and I hear ya on the heat in Disney thing, that is definitely a recipe for misery!

The main resort is on the marsh, but then Disney has a beach house and beach access across the main thoroughfare. It's a short bike ride or car ride over there, and Disney does have a shuttle as well.

I am heading to go see Wicked in about an hour, and I promise to start my trip report soon, laundry is done...but I still have no title, I may just call it " The wonderful trip report with no title" trip report!

Have fun at Wicked! Maybe a trip report title will come to you soon!

I have no idea what bracelets you're talking about. Where can you find them??

I'd love to hear about little things you have planned for your beach trip. I'm like you...I'm afraid I'd be bored after a few days. I like having things to do.

Here, kids find them at the sports stores and Hallmark stores. Their real name is Silly Bandz.

I think we will be able to amuse ourselves -- I'm just a worrier by nature.

Silly Bands are really a Georgia, Florida, Alabama thing. Although they have been catching on this spring in other places. I "believe" they were invented in Alabama. I asked my mom to get some for DDs Christmas stocking around Thanksgiving. She lives in SC. She likes to have a little project to obsess over. Every store she went into had never heard of them. Whereas stores here were posting banners out front saying "Sillybands are being stocked this Saturday" and people would line up. They are cute but stupid. The slap bracelets or pogs of this generation. At least they are cheap!

They are cute, and heaven knows, every generation has to have some sort of mania -- I remember Jelly shoes, twist beads, and Cabbage Patch Kids from my generation. :goodvibes

Hi Jackie!! What a wonderful dismeet you had for MP!! I am sure that MP was wonderful too...that is one of my favorite movies! :goodvibes
I met so many nice disers on my trip. Everyone is just as they are on the boards and it was like seeing long lost friends
I think I saw those bracelets in one of the stores last week....there was nary a store I missed ;) are they thin almost like a livestrong but much thinner and with a snap:confused3 If so then I just don't get the appeal :rotfl:

Tracy

Yes, those are the bracelets. I guess we don't get the appeal since we are past the tween stage. :rotfl:

I saw some of the great photos from your DIS meet! It looks like you had an absolute blast on your trip.

I think for some reason the silly bands are more popular right now in the south, my sister's son in the midwest and friends of our from Canada had no idea what they were..

I don't think I would have even heard of them if I weren't a teacher with two kids of my own. It's funny what catches on as a fad.

The beach if nothing else will be soo relaxing.. Disney isn't going anywhere and I'm sure it will be sooner than later for you anyway :) I know can't believe we only have 2 weeks left! Not looking forward to next year with all the class size increases...

I am already scheming for a fall Disney trip so you may be onto something. LOL!

I read about the class size increases in your county! What utter insanity! From a teacher's perspective, I can say that it's going to be all about crowd control in your kids' classrooms next year. I am so fed up with our state government right now. :sad2:

I totally saw the Silly Bandz or whatever they are called in the bookstore today but I had already finished paying and the next customer was breathing down my neck so I didn't get to look at them in detail like I wanted. :rotfl:

That's hilarious that you saw them right after we had talked about them on here! :rotfl: Sometimes it's hard to tell what exactly they are supposed to be. They come in themed packs like letters or dinosaurs or zoo animals. My students and I have started amusing ourselves by making up what they are -- for example, one girl had some of the dinosaurs, and the stegasaurus just didn't quite look right. We were joking about it being an amoeba and coming from the Protozoa pack. :lmao: We are easily amused at the end of the year. ;)

I'm curious Jackie....will you be saving money by going to HHI instead of WDW? The park tickets seem to be the one thing that really pushes a WDW vacation past any other vacation in regards to budget.

I think it was smart of you to take a step back to analyze your own motivations. Of course you are more of an expert on SC than I am but I can think of lots of things to do within driving distance of HHI! You guys will drive your own car right?

Hannah and Alison both are crazy over those silly bandz. I saw where Disney themed ones were coming out and I thought they might be nice to have before our trip.

I know how hard it was for you not to tell Chelsea "OK...Disney it is!" but good for you for being in-tune with her and knowing it wasn't sincere. As has been said many times before, sometimes being an adult stinks!

Not to worry, they are quite popular in PA too. ;)

Jackie, You'll just have to search out other adventures. I'm sure you will be able to find some. Also, since it is a Disney resort, do they have activities on property?

Those Silly bands are really popular with my hubby's classes, but not so much with my high schoolers!!!! I am not sure I even know what they look like!!!

I think you guys will have a great time wherever you go!! How could you not with Connor and Chelsea, I'm sure they make their own fun wherever they go LOL!

Wow. I am seriously uncool. I have never even heard of these bracelets!

I know that you guys are going to have a great summer vacation no matter where you go. I am kind of looking forward to hearing about Hilton Head. :goodvibes

I have to admit, I never heard of those bracelets until you shared them and I had to look them up! They are pretty cool!

Austin does the same thing to me about saying "I want to go here" about our anniversary. Usually before we went to disney we always went to this city about 45 mins from home.. this year I wanted to go, but he always wanted to go camping up north, so he could fish part of the time. I was all for that but whenever I mentioned places I found, he would say "ohh ok.. " and not really comment. Then the other day he texted me and said "I want to go to BV". Which is the hotel we usually go to.. and I was excited but also curious if he was doing it cause I wanted to or not!

Well think of the change of room, as a new adventure! hehe

I am with Jen, Christine, and LL -- I have never seen these elusive slap on animal bracelet thingies and I have never seen them at the HS, and I have two boys! So I guess I will remain in the dark, can someone share a photo??!!

And I agree about that summer plan, plan, no matter what you will have a great time! To help you, do you remember I said I had something from my stay at HH that I was going to give you? Well I finally dug it out from the mounds of Disney paraphernalia and I stuck it in the mail! Sooo... :rolleyes1

You'll SEE! :thumbsup2

We will be saving some money by heading to Hilton Head which is how I can justify a fall trip to Food and Wine. ;)

We will have our car down there, and you are right -- if we get really bored (which I don't think we will), we can always head to Beaufort, Savannah, or Charleston for the day.

Oh, yes, for our kids silly bandz in Disney shapes would be the ultimate!

I know we will be headed back to Disney before too, too long, and I do like Hilton Head, so being a grown-up won't be too bad this time. :goodvibes

Not to worry, they are quite popular in PA too. ;)

They do have lots of activities on property which the kids and I are pretty excited about doing -- we are all about them! I am hoping they do tie-dyed t-shirts while we are there because Chelsea would love to do those.

They look like colored plastic rubber bands in the shapes of various things -- think stencils that you can put on your wrist. You are right -- Chelsea and Connor do make their own fun wherever we are! :lmao:

Wow. I am seriously uncool. I have never even heard of these bracelets!

I don't imagine a lot of people at your office are sporting them. :rotfl2:

I know that you guys are going to have a great summer vacation no matter where you go. I am kind of looking forward to hearing about Hilton Head. :goodvibes

I was looking at pictures of the resort last night and getting very excited. :thumbsup2

I have to admit, I never heard of those bracelets until you shared them and I had to look them up! They are pretty cool!

The kids at my school are wild about them!

Austin does the same thing to me about saying "I want to go here" about our anniversary. In the case of Austin, I would go ahead and take him at his word. ;)

I am with Jen, Christine, and LL -- I have never seen these elusive slap on animal bracelet thingies and I have never seen them at the HS, and I have two boys! So I guess I will remain in the dark, can someone share a photo??!!

I think you must be right in between the targeted age group -- they are really big in the tween group, but I can't really see any self-respecting high schooler wearing them.

Here is the official website: http://www.sillybandz.com

I may need to get the sea creatures pack for the trip. ;)

And I agree about that summer plan, plan, no matter what you will have a great time! To help you, do you remember I said I had something from my stay at HH that I was going to give you? Well I finally dug it out from the mounds of Disney paraphernalia and I stuck it in the mail! Sooo... :rolleyes1

You'll SEE! :thumbsup2

Hurray!!! :yay: I am excited to see what it is! Thank you! I think we will have a great time in Hilton Head -- I am looking forward to it.

Happy Mother's Day!

I know you will have a great time at the beach! I think you will find tons of things to do there and Chelsea will be so thrilled that you chose just for her!:goodvibes

The band thingies haven't made their way here, well not to elementary school anyways. I saw them at Disney in April and for the life of me couldn't figure out why one would want rubber bands in shapes...:confused3 I had no idea you were supposed to WEAR them!:lmao:

Hope you have a great day!

I don't know if I've ever shared this with you before, but I'm actually allergic to the sun. In the sense that any length period of time (without proper sunblock, etc) in the sun, and I get sun poisoning. So I am the worst person to talk to about a beach vacation! :lmao: That being said, Disney is quite similar for me, and is it turns out DS, is the same way.

Honestly, the biggest draw for me about your Hilton Head vacation is the relaxation. The ability to truly relax without feeling that you need to get to this park or that event or do anything in particular, I think will be really freeing. Will you take that type of a vacation every year? No, of course not. But it must be nice to do it once in a while, and I'm sure you can find plenty of activities to occupy yourselves with if you desire. :goodvibes

Apparently the middle school crowd has no problem wearing rubber bands on their wrists. :lmao:

You are so right, TK! It will be nice to take a relaxing vacation where we can just do whatever we feel like -- heaven knows, the last six vacations have been go, go, go. ;)

Okay, these are really cool! I may have to start wearing and collecting them, too!
