Top of the World Lounge at Bay Lake Tower at Contemporary Resort - *2 New Parties Added! “Enchantment at the Top” & New “Bound to Be Bad” Dates Added

Pretty sure the "fee for extras" rumor has legs... Maybe it always had the "and may require a fee" verbiage... can't remember... Maybe confirmational bias...

*Requires eligibility for Membership Extras which is an incidental benefit subject to availability, change or termination and may require a fee.
It’s been there since I became a member in 2009. Much of that language is taken directly from FL timeshare law regarding incidental benefits.

That for a fee is not new.

You guys are looking at it backwards.

The bait and switch works the other way....

"Buy direct from us, THERE ARE PERKS!!!!"

couple years down the line....

"What perks, we didn't say anything about perks. Read the contract. Not guaranteed sucker, I mean, Sir"

But that’s not what happens. They tell you upfront and make you sign off before you even buy that perks are extra and you are not guaranteed any of them.

Sure, they tell you that they could exist and what is current but at no time does a direct buyer buy without a crystal clear document that says “Don’t buy this assuming any of these will continue”

So, no, it’s no bait and switch because you know when you buy that. Anyone who claims differently is not be honest or didn’t read what they signed.

Here is the exact language. No way it’s anything but upfront. It IS the contract.

For $640 for my family of 4, I can pay for a round trip of gas, tolls, hotel on way down and way back, food, and have money left over. I’d rather take another trip than spend 3 hours with appetizers, watered down drinks, and a 15 min firework show.

Except this is not priced for a family of 4 its priced for solos or couples. Hence no kids pricing. They only said you can get 4 people total so people wouldn't call them complaining about their family of 3 or 4 even though they would never go.

I was reading the POS because wanted to confirm that TOTWL wasn't paid with dues. Right below the paragraph that confirms that, it says that there's no guaranty that any portion of the Contemporary or the monorail will continue to operate (and not to buy BLT in reliance upon continued operation of the Contemporary). I'm sure this is all standard timeshare language, but I just can't see the monorail ever going away (or the Contemporary for that matter)!

Wish all the lounges and restaurants were included. You could get first dibs for reservations if you are staying at that DVC resort on points and you would also still have things like the Boardwalk lounge area and such open.

If it were owned by members it could be more reasonably priced to help drive people to want to go there.

I just closed on a resale Boardwalk contract for $145 pp, DVC is selling direct DBV at 230 pp. I saved $85 pp which translates to $17,000 for my 200 point contract.

I get that it is disappointing to lose privileges, but not surprising. I don’t think that any of the perks are worth $17,000.

Someone else brought it up but the math is more complicated than that. I could easily sell 200 points at Riviera for $17 in 20 years when the BWV contract expires.

The direct prices on those sold out resorts have sky rocketed in the last 3 years.

A member is a member. This whole white vs blue thing is patently ridiculous. I still struggle to accept that Disney did it.

Not exactly. The original member paid Disney profit and possibly has bought multiple contracts with Disney giving them more profit.

Resale on the other hand has not paid Disney anything and the contract you bought could be 1 of 2/5/10 other contracts that owner has which means they are not actually passing off their account to you.

For Disney the perks work because the goal is to give you 1 set of perks but cash in multiple times on your direct purchases. Long term as resale members increase the benefits would not be able to be maintained for what Disney wants to spend rightly or wrongly.

Flip side they could build perks in to the cost of MFs but people with a bunch of points would be fairly upset.

Actually they can’t build incidental benefits into the MFs. FL Timeshare law strictly prohibits that.

Dues can only be used for operating expenses. Taxes and capital reserves.

We reserved Friday night at this point. You can cancel outside of 48hrs before the event.

I am not positive if you need to be a direct member to be honest from the language but possibly? Possibly only for this event though not for when it will be free entry like normal.

"Members must present their Digital Member ID and a physical or digital copy of their confirmation email at the security both for parking at the resort and check-in."

"As a part of Membership Extras, an incidental benefit, these Member benefits are subject to change, availability or termination and may require a fee. Membership Extras are available with eligible ownership interests. Visit
http://disneyvacationclub.com/memextraspolicy for more information."

It’s been confirmed already by DVC and the website info posted early in the thread states lounge access is now restricted all the time.

Ok.

Trying to book but queue line keeps pausing. Started at 150 and now at 57. So sloooowww.

Yeah, the 3 events were sold out within 45 minutes.

It appears the queuing app doesn't secure your spot until all of the forms are filled out. Since they used one queue for 3 separate nights, I suspect they were letting people into the sign-up form a little at a time, giving them an opportunity to choose their nights and specify party size before allowing more in. Attendance was surely quite limited. I believe the interior lounge only seats about 70 people.

The queue was in the 400s when I was watching. If you started at 150 and never got in, clearly there's demand for events like this.

Will be interesting to see if They restrict attendees to adults, 21 or over. Naw, it’s WDW

Nope any age can go the pricing is the restriction they are putting in place to dissuade kids. It likely comes down to if you did restrict to over 21 then you would have lots of families upset since there is no way to leave the kids unattended back at the resort.

So now you have arguments with people who never would attend or couldn't get tickets anyways.

All events sold out. So sad.

Keep an eye out since there can be cancellations so you never know.

And this is why Disney can get away with all this. Because everyone jumps when Disney says to jump.

If they started at 150 right when the queue opens it means these events are fairly small. You are probably looking at like maybe 100 members total booking this for probably 300 total people.

I suspect some people had multiple windows open so they would have possibly had 2 numbers prior to that 150 place.

Exactly. They don't need Moonlight Magic level interest to fill the place. We're talking the equivalent of three small wedding receptions. Total.

I wanted this because we move into our new FL home on July 7th after waiting since January for it to be finished. And my birthday is July 17 so thus was going to be my Bday date with hubby. Oh well. Have Bull and Bear booked off site for 17th and will stick with that.

Maybe this new Villains theming will attract Disney Execs.
I assumed it was themed to Disney execs.

Come experience the terrifying thrills of coming close-to-close with the greatest villains in Disney history! Featuring... Paul Pressler! Zach Riddley! And the big guy himself, Bob Chapek! (Warning: event may be too terrifying for small children.)
