Michael is originally from our area and his parents own a meat farm (slaughterhouse) here (which just had a HUGE fire in Dec and I think they lost everything). It's been big news in our little local paper and I couldn't wait to watch! Boy was I surprised when it became apparent the Michael will be the Marcel/Stephen of this show! Many people who didn't watch on Wednesday asked me how he did on the show, so it was interesting to tell them!

I agree that he'll provide the drama for the show, so he'll probably be kept around for awhile. It's big news for this area! I heard we also had a local country singer on some country singing show, but I haven't seen that one (nor do I plan to - just not my thing). So, I'll follow Top Design and root for Michael. Do you think he'll learn how to paint?!

I cannot IMAGINE Michael inheriting a meat farm and getting his precious "hands dirty"...:lmao:

I agree, he is Marcel and Stephan's love child, I think Bravo requests these types for all of their reality shows!

And I don't think she's very famous either :confused3 . I couldn't think of anything she'd been in. According to IMDB she's had a lot of very small roles in lots of movies. I think her most well known performance was in "The Wedding Singer" singing "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?" I do remember that scene :thumbsup2

OK, that was bugging me. I was wondering if she played George in that movie. She looked better as Boy George than she did on TD.

Did anyone watch last night? I just watched the DVR. Kind of surprised at the expelled designer.

Funny, last night Adler said the "See ya later, decorator" line... UGH!
:lmao:

While I liked the design of the room that lost, the floor really was horrible and part of the task is to stay on budget and to prevail even when you have a curveball thrown at you, so that would be a good reason to send someone home early. That room was not fully painted, either.

Compared to the pirate room, one was a magazine room while the other was something that the kids probably could have done themselves.

I thought his room was pretty ugly because of that floor, and he definitely deserved to go. I'm actually surprised at how much they hated Michael's room. I liked it and would have loved it as a 10yr old

I think the judges are terrible on this show, so blah. they didn't even seem to take the kids opinions into the judging either, so why bother even having them on in the first place? I like the premise but the judges bring the show down for me.

I agree - I really dislike the judging portion. They are horrible snobs and I very much disagree with their taste. They seem to be only interest in trendiness and not based on whether or not the designer satisfied the client. They should consult Project Runway for lessons in judging ;)

I agree. All three seem to be so snobbish in their attitudes and critique... Adler and his "look" give me the creeps. The only one I like is ol' Howdy Doody Todd who actually seems quite sweet.

I liked Felicia's room best, the one with the chess. I thought the pirate one was too cluttered. And they thought the one last week was cluttered!

LOL, Crankyshank, I think we posted the same time!! I agree the judges on PR AND on Top Chef are much better. This group act like they're sitting on a stick!:lmao:

Speaking of reruns- I actually watched both shows this morning...

I have to agree- about the judges- I guess with Top Chef and Project Runway this one just isn't quite cutting it in comparison.

I was also surprised by the double elimination in the first show- talk about cutting them out quick- not too much of a chance to proove yourself as an individual for that one.

And as for the winning room- I really think it was too cluttered- and all I kept thinking was this was for a 10yo- that although it is "cool" now- in 2 years he will get teased by any friends coming over about his baby room lol

That was an interesting challenge though- design a room, spend your budget on furniture and then find out it is for a 10yo...

I did like the other top two designs- I thought the Jungle room looked more like a girl's room though and the one with everything on wheels looked like an Ikea room. The black and pink Hollywood room- was really the cutest- and they kept thinking "how un-kid like" but I know my now 14yo would have loved it at 10 and still liked it now- and my now 9yo would like it too but would prefer blue instead of pink lol

I liked the black and pink Hollywood room the best as well.
My daughter would love it.
The pirate ship and jungle room were a bit too themey for me.
I lost count of how many times the judges awkwardly smiled, said hello and thank you to each contestant last night. Did we really need to see them say hello and thank you to each contestant as they reviewed their room? I swear that must of took up half the time-I would have rather a seen the room longer.
I am just not feeling this show as much as much as Top Chef or Project Runway. The show feels rushed. I think its too hard to show 10 different people decorating a complete room.
That head judge is creepy :scared:

I was wondering why they even bothered to have the kids on too.:confused3 Some of the rooms that the judges disliked, the kids were pleased with. The other thing that bothered me was "You can't design a room around a cat." Now, I'm not a cat person but the cat was one of the important things listed in that little girl's life and he ran with it. I thought it was clever. Why bother to give them any facts about their secret clients if they're going to rip the designers for using the info?:confused3

I guess I'm just not that into TD yet because I can't keep the designers straight and I can't remember which room was designed by whom. I'll give it another week or two but I may be saying, "See ya later, decorator!"

I agree with this. At least on TC and PR, if they told you to do something, like the black and white challenge or the Thanksgiving themed dinner, it was held to that standard. We could understand why Kayne would be lambasted because he only used a hint of white in his design or why Carlos would be sent home because he took 4 hours to make a salad.

If I want a pug room, I expect my designer to give me a pug room and not for the judges to not like it if it satisfies what I, the client, asked for them to do.

Yep, the judges stink. I like the line about sitting on sticks, Robin!

Question:

Why CAN'T you design a room around a cat??? :rotfl2:

The fact that they asked why wasn't anything on the walkway around the top of the room just FLOORED ME....:confused3 ... My cats would use anything up there for BATTING practice!!

Geez, I hope it's just the editing that makes them look like soul-less snobs... UGH! Brings me back to the days of the Fashion Police in Manhattan..you're not wearing THAT, are you?????..... meeeoooooooooowwwww:cat:

So, any thoughts on last night's show? I fell asleep before it was over. I hate when I close my eyes just for a commercial break and wake up an hour later.

I actually DVR'ed it and just watched it. It's getting a little boring to me now.

The issue with the color was just done ad nauseum. AND they sent the wrong person home. I think Ryan should been sent home, not Elizabeth.

I guess I'm not the only person who gave up on this show, right? What a bust!

I'm watching but without much enthusiasm. I catch it when they replay the episode. I don't think it's worth staying awake to watch.

Shear Genious sounds interesting... When does Project Runway come on again?

Thats pretty much how I feel about it too. I will catch the rerun if its on, but I won't stay up for it like I did with top chef and project runway.
