Did anyone stay up to watch Top Design after Top Chef on Bravo last night?

I'll admit, I fell asleep, but I'm interested in seeing this and can't wait for the rerun... not that Bravo reruns all the time. :rolleyes1

What did you think? How were the contestants/characters? What was the challenge last night?

I did a search before posting and I couldn't find a thread on this yet. Maybe this can become the "Official" thread.

I didn't watch it- I would have if it was on at 10. I will probably watch the reruns tho

I watched it. The challenge was to design a room for an unknown celebrity based on some objects of hers/his. The objects included a butterfly picture, a disco ball, and some other funky kind of things. The divided the contestants in pairs and told them they had a $50,000 budget. The room, I think, was supposed to be something like an inner sanctum room.

As for contestants they focused on drama between two of the men who were paired together. It seems all of the men except one (who says he has a wife) are gay. One of them is somewhat older and seemed to be having issues with all of the other ones being younger. The older one and a 23 year old got put on a team together and fought the entire time and said nasty things about each other to the judges.

I can't say I have any interest in interior design. But I'll watch for the drama. (Although I think Lost is going to be on the same day and time :sad2: )

I watched part of it but DVR'd it. It looks good. I am so glad I won't have to miss Top Chef! I love design, it's my THING!

Is Lost moving to 10:00 or is Top Design moving to 9:00?

Lost is moving to 10, so they will be on against each other. Top Design is on Bravo so that means it replays A LOT so you will most likely be able to see it before the next week

I watched it and liked it. Todd Oldham is a bit stiff as a host, but hopefully he'll loosen up. I am amazed about the weird things some people selected with all of the choices they had to work with.

Bravo replays their shows almost daily so no worries about having to choose between TD and Lost.

My biggest problem is that I'll fall asleep before Lost is over then. I hate 10:00 shows. Maybe I really do need to get a DVR.

They definitely replay it at earlier times. Especially on the weekend.

I watched it-it was just okay.
The host Todd is rather odd looking. He reminded me of Howdy Doody. His speech was rather weird also. He is no Heidi Klum.

They also needed a better phrase when kicking someone off. Project Runway has "you're out", Top Chef says "pack your knives and go". This show- "goodbye"? That is the best they could come up with?

Hope it gets better.

I watched it also. I thought the first challenge should have been an individual one instead of be paired up. Also, I didn't like how they were dismissed as a team, I would have rather seem the two people go from two different teams.

What should it be?

"You're out of style." or maybe "You're so last year."

You're right, "goodbye" is what Martha said in her apprentice show and we all know how that worked out.

I watched half of it last night and then I went to sleep. I'll catch it tonight; they're running it at 7:00 p.m. I'm sure it will be on again about 47 times before next Wednesday.

So, who was the "celebrity" they were designing for?

Alexis Arquette was the "celebrity" they were designing for.

"celebrity" is RIGHT? What has "she" done worth "celebrating??":rotfl2:

It seemed very obvious who was leaving, there is NO WAY they'd get rid of Michael and John early because they're the "drama" of the show.

As for the host being stiff, he was ANIMATED compared to the two hosts of Top Chef. The one for Season One was like a battery operated android!!

I like Oldham. He seemed to care about the contestants and was very positive.

I read a magazine article that said the "see ya later" line was going to be "See ya later, decorator!". I think I like "goodbye" better.

Yikes! :scared: That was horrible!

But after years of "adios" catch phrases they COULD have come up with something a little more "creative" considering these are supposed to be "creative" people!:rotfl:

Is "she" still a "he" in drag, or did "she" actually have the operation done? It seemed to me from her deep voice that she was a transvestite. My DS kept asking why she looked like a girl but sounded like a boy.

My kids kept saying that they'd get rid of Michael and John. I told them the same thing you said. The ladies were boring. Michael and John added drama. They'll stick around for awhile.

I didn't hate Oldham. He was trying to be Tim Gunn. Maybe he'll come into his own soon enough.

How about all the crying that was done in this episode? So early on, too.

According to Wikipedia, in her own words she wants other to identify her not as a man or a woman, but as a "tranny--a transgendered individual."

"Transvestite" generally refers to someone who sometimes or even often dresses in the clothes associated with the other sex but who has not changed their gender identity-i.e. a biological male who dresses in feminine clothing, but still identifies as a man. According to Wikipedia, for most of her life she lived as a male (with the name given to her at birth I believe) but performed drag as a woman named "Eva Destruction," so at that time she would probably have fit under the transvestite label.

In recent years, though she has begun to live her life as a woman, changed her name, etc., so regardless of any attempt to change her body she would probably best be described as transsexual. According to Wikipedia she has begun the process of preparing for sex reassignment surgery, but I doubt she has finished.

And I don't think she's very famous either :confused3 . I couldn't think of anything she'd been in. According to IMDB she's had a lot of very small roles in lots of movies. I think her most well known performance was in "The Wedding Singer" singing "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?" I do remember that scene :thumbsup2

Michael is originally from our area and his parents own a meat farm (slaughterhouse) here (which just had a HUGE fire in Dec and I think they lost everything). It's been big news in our little local paper and I couldn't wait to watch! Boy was I surprised when it became apparent the Michael will be the Marcel/Stephen of this show! Many people who didn't watch on Wednesday asked me how he did on the show, so it was interesting to tell them!

I agree that he'll provide the drama for the show, so he'll probably be kept around for awhile. It's big news for this area! I heard we also had a local country singer on some country singing show, but I haven't seen that one (nor do I plan to - just not my thing). So, I'll follow Top Design and root for Michael. Do you think he'll learn how to paint?!
