Top Chef Seven--May Contain Spoilers!

Oh, Robin...I missed that humor when I bailed on the AI thread this year. Good Lord, couldn't get into that show this year one bit. I ended up watching the whole darn thing (with the exception of the final week -- went three months, but bailed on the finale because I didn't care), but I couldn't stand anyone. When they got rid of my favorite -- Katelyn -- when they were choosing the Top 12, I decided that I couldn't care less.

Me neither!!! I really gave it a shot too..this was the first year that i just could not care less...it was pitiful. At least on Top chef, if the contestants are sub par we would still see some yummy food...and Tom Collichio is always entertaining

I always watch and was so excited to find that one of the chefs is from my town - Kevin. He made it into the top on both the quick fire and the elimination rounds so I have high hopes for him!

Same here! I'm not from Hamilton but am very very close (West Windsor), and I love the Grounds for Sculpture where his restaurant is (although I've never eaten there), so I was excited to see him on the show. I hope he does well!

I don't have many other opinions yet this early on, but I'm excited to see how this season turns out. Hopefully it should be a good season!

This is my first time to watch Top Chef. I am glad to hear that it gets better after the first few weeks. I am watching it for 2 reasons.

1.) Whenever we go to Dallas, we love to eat at Go Fish! That is the restaurant that Tiffany Derry is chef at.

2.) We are going to DC for vacation, so it is fun to see the monuments and things before we go.

This is my first time to watch Top Chef. I am glad to hear that it gets better after the first few weeks. I am watching it for 2 reasons.

Yeah, stick with it. There's too many people right now for it get good yet. Three or four episodes in you can pick your favorites, pick the troublemakers, and pick the underdogs who you hope do better than should be expected.

I actually thought last night's episode moved way too quickly. Usually this initial episode is supersized by 15 to 30 minutes, so it seemed a little too jam-packed. (Plus, the quickfire challenge was a tad on the boring side.)

I am really glad that they eliminated John. First off his googly eyes and crazy nasty dreds were giving me the willies. If I found out he was the executive chef making my meal, I do not know what I would do. Perhaps look for a stray hair ? Secondly, pre-made puff pastry, whipped cream, maple syrup, and brittle?? Come on? On a lazy day in the that is what I would make for dessert.

In his farewell monologue I like how he tried to make it seem like he was taking a chance by making a dessert. He did not take a chance. He made a cop-out recipe that was suppose to fool the judges into thinking that he was taking a chance.

I can't wait for next weeks episode and to see Angelo fail. However that is for another post...

Spike from Top Chef Chicago opened a hamburger place called The Good Stuff Eatery a few blocks from the Library of Congress in DC--and he's often there working the counter. The hamburgers are really good, but messy, and not crazy-expensive.

Don't get me wrong, I've found myself watching a lot of food shows lately and have been inspired to pick up the pots and pans to cook (and yes ladies, I am available ).

That being said, I kind of missed the bickering in this first week. I know it's way too early, but that bickering is what makes reality shows like this work. You've got to play up the drama.

I'm not picking on the quoted poster, it's just the most convenient post.

We can't always help how we look. Googly eyes is, well, just the way someone is born. To judge someone's cooking ability on the appearance of their eyes is truly unfair.

This thread isn't the only place I've seen criticisms of John's hair. Yes, I understand it's unappealing. But it IS tied back with the bandanna, and it appears to also be tied back in some type of ponytail in the back? There's a STRONG likellihood none of his hair escapes into the food. There's an equally strong likelihood it's clean. Remember, as an Executive Chef, if he's currently employed, he needs to be clean. With the screening process Top Chef uses, they wouldn't have taken a Chef with personal hygiene issues.

Judge the Chefs on their cooking abilities and style, not on their looks or personal style, okay? Now, based on THAT criteria - yeah, obviously, John still deserved to go

My 1st time watching also- I'm a HUGE Real HW of NJ fan!! And the hype on the top chef starting was too much for me to pass up. I really enjoyed it; and have to agree about the homeless looking freaky guy- I couldn't eat anything he cooked no matter how good it was just thinking about that unwashed hair was too much for me!

Can't wait for next week...

Angelo seems so nice ... not pompous at all about all his winnings!

John ... hmm, to have bought already made pastry puffs to use at the challenge while all the other chefs are making everything from scratch ... how odd. AND his hair, omg, how long has he been growing it and has it ever been washed ...

Jacqueline stating that she needed the recipe to have made her dish properly and then Tom asked her how many times she has made it and she stated OVER 100 times ... how odd.

I agree with others that it is too early to call a favorite. It takes me at least a few weeks until I find someone I like. I however was happy that John went home. You go on Top Chef and make dessert as your signiture dish? And a bad one at that.

As a male viewer, it's usually not Gail's belly that catches my attention.

Everyone's all about Padma (and don't get me wrong, she's certainly plenty attractive), but I'm more of a Gail guy, I guess, so I wasn't looking at the belly either. The fact that she's hosting Top Chef Desserts (which was mentioned last night) now gives me a reason to watch that...

Padma was still packing some um, baby weight. She is a beautiful woman though.

I like Angelo and Kenny. I think they will have a fun rivalry this season. The chicken liver chick needed to go home.

Just like Survivor and Amazing Race, Top Chef starts kind of boring and gets better each week. The best part of watching these shows is getting to know the contestants and pick those you like and those you don't and rooting for your favorites. But in the beginning, there are too many contestants and you haven't had a chance to get to know them yet.

So it always gets more interesting as it goes along from week to week.

When they brought the 4 losers in, it was obvious that it was going to be John or Jacqueline. They both made bad dishes. I think Jacqueline was spared because at least she actually made all the components of her dish. Buying pre-made pastry dough was a fatal mistake.
