Top 5 Disney restaurants

You seem very interested in Bistro de Paris - remember, it's not on the dining plan so you would need to pay out of pocket if you go there.

Chefs de France is on the dining plan but it is not as upscale.

Nobody's mentioned Sanaa, which is right next door at Animal Kingdom Villas.

Congratulation on your wedding. I' m sure you will have a lovely honeymoon.

Narcoosee's (book around fireworks time. Everyone goes out on the dock to watch the MK Fireworks. It's lovely. Delicious scallops entree and key lime creme brulee for dessert.)

California Grill (Lovely menu and service. Try to get a table near the window.)

Boma (Fantastic buffet with African food and traditional American)

Wolfgang Puck's (Definitely have the lobster risotto)

Restaurant Marrakesh (Interesting Moroccan food and belly dancing. Lots of fun.)

I'm also quite partial to the Hollywood Brown Derby, but DH not so much.

How do you know which restaurants are or are not on the dining plan? I have heard people mention Sanaa. We're staying at animal kingdom lodge, so that would seem a good option. What can you tell me about it?

Sanaa is on the dining plan for one credit per person. It is an Indian/African influenced restaurant.

Our dining plan board has a lot of information about the dining plan. This post
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2353648

is the dining plan FAQ. There are links in this post to the official Disney brochures for all three dining plans, which have lists of the restaurants that accept the plan. The post will also tell you which table service restaurants currently require 2 DDP credits per person to eat there.

You can find sample menus at
http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/dining/disneydining.cfm

for many of the Disney restaurants. These are sample menus only and may or may not reflect the menu you will actually see when you arrive.

1. Cali Grill
2. Citrico's
3. Narcoossee's
4. V & A

1. Prime Time
2. Tutto
3. Teppen Edo
4. Tony's
5.Kona's for BK

1. California Grill
2. Jiko
3. Blue Zoo
4. Fulton's
5. Narcoosee's

In my opinion, the first three are in a class of their own, and the latter two are far better than anything else on the property (though there are a number of other fine restaurants). Have fun!

We've been several times in the past four or five years, and we always try to go to as many new restaurants as possible. As far as I'm concerned, when I'm on vacation, having good food and drinks is part of the fun.

That being said, the best meals I've had are at the following locations:

5. Grand Floridian Cafe
4. Coral Reef
3. Kouzzina
2. California Grill
1. Jiko

I could maybe shoehorn Shula's in there, too, but the limited menu stops me from doing so. Their cowboy rib eye is a fantastic steak, though.

Well thanks for all your help.... looks like Jiko and California Grill are a must. Will def be booking those.

Have already booked for Boma, Chef de France, Whispering Canyon, Yak & Yeti, T-rex, Hollywood Vine, Artists Point.

I'm pretty Keen on Citricos after seeing the menu. Anyone have any first hand experience there?

Here's my top 5

1. Jiko had the best alone dinner ever at WDW
2. Teppan Edo-great food
3. Akershus-the Princesses and food is great
4. Ohanna's breakfast- yummy and fun with Mickey
5. Sanaa- overlooking the animals and the food was great
I like trying somwhere new every trip.

Plus the Grand Marnier slush at France is the bomb:worship:
Epcot snacks
Churros in Mexico
Pretzels and Beer in Germany
Sushi in Japan

Can I go back today?

I love churros too!!

We've booked Jikos, really looking forward to it. Thinking seriously about Akershus and Sanna. We're staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge, so Sanna would be ideal, but looking at the menu it seems to be basically just a curry? Is it worth the visit?

Getting everyone to agree on a restaurant is akin to making everyone agree about politics--it just isn't possible. What is a great restaurant to one poster was the scene of a disastrous meal for another. That being said, you've asked two specific questions, neither of which I've seen answered yet.

First, you mention Citrico's, and while I will admit it makes many "best of WDW" lists in this forum, I had one of my worst experiences there. The menu selections are good, but our service that night was at times patronizing, disdainful, unprofessional, and unworthy of a signature restaurant. While the food wasn't terrible, some entrees in our party of five came out undercooked--twice--and another received her food 15 minutes later than the rest. Coffee cups were left unfilled after the initial pour, even after we asked for more. All that being said, there are many people who absolutely adore Citrico's and can recount numerous wonderful meals there.

You also asked much earlier about Artist Point. That happens to be my favorite place to eat at WDW. Their menu isn't extensive, but what they prepare has always been superb. . .for me. Their signature dish is the cedar plank salmon which is divine, though I've read that they've changed the sauce that accompanies it which a few haven't enjoyed as much as the old one. They always have buffalo on the menu, usually in filet form, and it is very good (my personal favorite) as long as you like medium rare meat--overcooked buffalo is tough and tasteless (as is any lean meat). An absolute must-have at AP is the smokey portobello soup--sublime. And though there have been some disagreements about the berry cobbler there, it remains the best dessert option on the menu. I've never had bad service there (7 trips and counting), love the ambience, and afterward, it's a great location to stroll along the beach or a nature trail where it's serene and lovely.

Again, there will be others who disagree about AP, and I get that. But, that brings me to my final point. Go into each restaurant with as few preconceived notions as possible. Expect good food and good service since that's what restaurants daily should provide. But, if you have high expectations of having a great time, say at Whispering Canyon, but get a server who isn't "into" the action, you'll be disappointed. Likewise, if you approach a restaurant with some dread, then it might become a self-fulfilling experience. Go open-mindedly into each one, expect to have a good time, and who knows, you might be posting on the Review thread that you had a great time dining in the World! Good luck and have fun! :thumbsup2

just tried booking for end of september or early october, but its fully booked! Not even space for 2 people at any point of the day

If you don't mind an early lunch try getting to Le Cellier early when they open around 11. You can usually get in with little wait. :goodvibes

If you haven't checked, be advised that T-Rex doesn't accept the dining plan either, so be prepared to pay for that one.

I love rare meat and mushrooms, so this sounds right up my street.
And thanks for your advice. You're right, everyone has different opinions, but fortunately my wife and I have very similar food tastes so can usually agree. I love hearing about peoples dining experiences, but always try to go into a restaurant with an open mind and just expecting good food and service. Hopefully your experience at Citricos was a one off and we'll get good service there too!

Sounds as though you have just the right attitude for eating around the World. Bon appetit!

My top 5, especially for romantic/honeymoon restaurants:
California Grill
Jiko
Citricos
Narcoosees
Tutto Italia

My favorites are:

Narcoossee's
Flying Fish Cafe
Yachtsman Steakhouse
Le Cellier
Teppan Edo

If you decide on California Grill (our personal favorite) schedule it around fireworks time. It's on the 15th floor of the Contemporary Resort and the view of the fireworks is amazing. They dim the lights in the restaurant and pipe in the music. If you choose they will also hold off serving your dinner during the fireworks so it is hot and fresh when the show is over. If you can't see the fireworks from your table they have an observation deck off the restaurant with a perfect view (and music). There is plenty of room for everyone to see. Besides the magic of seeing the fireworks, the food is amazing!
