Hi All,

We are going to try and squeeze in 3 special evening meals whilst we are over in Disney for our first trip, question I would like to ask is what would you consider to be special evening meals? We are definitely booking a PS for the Fantasmic dinner package, but what else would you recommend?

I'd also be interested in opinions for the best restraunt for the Fantasmic package, money isn't a concern, we want it to be special....

Regards

Do you have kids, and how old are they, and can they sit quietly through a 1 1/2-2 hour meals? Those answers will make a difference on where you eat.

Anne

Hello Anne,

We have one child and he will be 12 when we go to Orlando in August.... he would sit through that length of meal, we are looking for something memorable...

Thanks

Our kids are 8 and 11. A few places we've tried and liked (with the kids):

Teppanyaki
Le Cellier
ESPN
Cape May breakfast
San Angel Inn
Spoodles
Rose and Crown
Plaza Rest.

Other places we've tried that were ok but not great:

Sci-fi
Hollywood and Vine
CP
Rainforest Cafe
'Ohana
Garden Grill

Places we tried and won't return to for various reasons:

Chef Mickey
Tony's

Next trip planning to take the kids to:

Marakkesh
Le Cellier (for dinner, did lunch last trip)
Spoodles (for dinner, did breakfast)

I write this because I have been to Disney at least 16 times and consider myself a pretty reliable resource. Some really nice restaurants are:

1: Ohans's (Polynesian - open oven serves grilled chicken, turkey, steak, port, shrimps and a lazy susan filled with rice and veg and salads for about $22 a person all you can eat - really nice beautiful resort)

2. Flying Fish Cafe (Boardwalk) great seafood and a great place to walk around at night for some entertainment ( you can also walk right into Epcot after dinner - take the boat )

3. Yacht Club Steak Housse - great meal for steak eaters

4. Whispering Canyon - Wilderness Lodge a must to see nice family meal, a little noisy

5. Prime Time Cafe - for some fun

Ann

I have a 12 yr old ds. He loves gourmet anything and will sit as long as the food is presented. Our favorite and memorable places are:

Blue Zoo - way, way cool atmosphere and great food

Flying Fish - location and food and service - perfect

Ca Grill - need I say more?

Something very memorable we did in December was Lunch with an Imagineer at Brown Derby. We still talk about it!

nothing IMHO is more memorable than Victoria and Alberts, if cost is not a factor that is!

We loved the Hollywood Brown Derby but have read good things about Mama Melrose's (for Fantasmic package, both are included; my husband loved the grouper @ Brown Derby, I had the Cobb Salad & grapefruit cake - yum!).

Other good dining choices:

Flying Fish Cafe on the Boardwalk
Kona Cafe at the Polynesian
Artist's Point at WL (Whispering Canyon may be more fun for your 12 y/o but the food at AP was fantastic!)
Jiko's at AKL (have also heard good things about Boma but it is a buffet & we usually don't eat large portions so avoid the buffets).

A "special" evening meal I'm sure means different things to different people. If I was eating out in WDW every night and I had to pick 3 special meals, with my 12 year old and spouse, money not a concern, etc., I would choose:

Artist Point
Jiko
Brown Derby (part of Fantasmic package)

The restaurants at the GF are very good, especially V&A, but with a 12 year old I think they would enjoy the above choices better.

What a great response! I have a bit of research to do now :) Thanks to everyone who responded, we want to try and make the trip rela special and this includes some special meals.... I'll be looking into all your suggestions with the family!

For Fantasmic, I recommend the Brown Derby.

Other memorable type spots:
Victoria and Alberts--if you're wiling to dress up, and spend 2 1/2 hours for dinner. May not be to your 12 year old's liking tho--

California Grill--view is outstanding also.

THen Narcoosee's, Flying Fish, Palio (Italian), Citrico's, Yachtsman Steakhouse, Portobello YC (in Downtown Disney area). JIko's at the AKL is also a very nice spot I'd recommend. Artiist Point in the Wilderness Lodge is also nice.

So--in order: California Grill, Jiko's and the Brown Derby for Fantasmic.

If you're looking for sophisticated dining at the top restaurants in WDW, listen to Uncleromulus.

If you're looking for something simpler, there are a lot of possibilities.

Either of the Polynesian's restaurants, 'Ohana or Kona Cafe, can be very good. Kona Cafe has menus, and 'Ohana has a fixed all-you-can-eat (but not buffet) meal.

Places I've not eaten but hope to this year as I've seen MANY good reviews:
-- "Fresh" at the Dolphin" A buffet but apparently a notch above the others at WDW.
-- "Le Cellier" The most commonly mentioned favorite among the World Showcase restaurants at Epcot.

Favorite top 3 evening meals for me are 'OHanna's, Whispering Canyon and Liberty Tree Tavern.

For the Fantasmic package, Brown Derby was good but so was Mama Melroses.

My favorite for steak is Shula's! Other favorites are CA Grill, Yachtsman Steakhouse, Ohana and Artist Point.

'OHANA'S, ARTIST POINT & RAIN FOREST CAFE!

:wave2:

1) Ohana's
2) Whispering Cayon Cafe
3) Liberty Tree Tavren

For Fantasmic Mama Melrose's

My favorite dinner meals would be at:

Boma at Animal Kingdom Lodge

OHanna at The Polynesian

Biergarten in Germany/Epcot
