We're off to Florida and like to keep to a good diet rather than mass burgers n chips. We'd like to look forward to dinner at nice places where healthy choice are availble.

Would love to know your favourites.

Cheers,

Kul

I like to eat fairly healthily too and here are a few of my favs:
Counter Service
MK

Columbia Harbor House-1/2 sammie and veg. chilli

EPCOT
(This is my fav. park for counterservice!)
Sunshine Seasons (The Land)-I like the salmon
Yakitori House (Japan)-Udon soup
Tangerine Cafe (Morrocco)-yummie veggie plate

AK & DHS
I used to like Tusker House but it's changed to a buffet since I've been. I'm not sure where we would eat at this park now. Almost all of the counter service places I've tried at DHS were nasty.

Most places will sub carrots for the fries and some (not all though) of them will let you get grapes as your dessert if you're on the DDP.

Table Service
I don't know if you're planning on doing any sit-down restaurants but we like Boma in the AKL a lot and I'm not a buffet person. They have a great variety of soups and salads and the fruit here is always nice. California Grill has pretty good sushi. I've also had decent healthyish food at the sit-downs at Japan (Epcot), Morrocco (Epcot) and Jiko (Animal Kingdom Lodge). Almost any of the restaurants have a fish dish. Like the CS grapes I've had hit and miss luck subbing veggies and fruit for the potatoes and dessert.

Hope this helps!

(For all the healthy eating fuss, I expected a much larger list. I am kind of surprised looking at it how few truly healthy choices there are.)

Have to agree with Sunshine Seasons, although the salmon was truly better at the food court at All Star Movies.

Let's see, Backlot Express has a grilled veggie sandwich and a grilled turkey sandwich. You can get red grapes as a side instead of fries.

Pizzafari has a really good hot Italian sandwich that DH and I split, also with grapes.

Sci-Fi has a grilled chicken sandwich and marinated tofu dish on their lunch menu.

Chefs de France has several salads and good sandwiches on their lunch menu, as does the Plaza in Magic Kingdom.

It's more the portion sizes you need to watch at WDW as they are GARGANTUAN!

Check out the menus on Deb's site. It's very easy to find something healthy to eat, sit downs, counter services, and resorts. Have a fantastic trip!:yay:

This is what was hoping. Thanks both for the lists. Clearly it's made me feel a bit better about daytime eating.

Also been on Frommers Orlando online to see the recommendations. Lots of non mickey dinner places that i will hopefully book. I do like Cali grill, done VandA- it was o.k. Flyin fish also ok. Wondering about Ohana but i don't always like set meals and eat as much as u like places.

Any more

BOMA is number one for healthy selections IMO! My DH's aunt was on Jenny Craig and was very strict about sticking with her "diet". We went to Chef Mickey's and other than salad her selections were limited. Most dishes including the fish had high calorie sauces. I think she ate salad for dinner and mixed nuts for dessert! Our second meal was at Boma, she was super excited. They have tons of fresh veggie and fruit selections. And a delicious assortment of hummus! Good luck and ENJOY!

Keep in mind its often not a matter of where, but what you choose on the menu. Most places have healthier choices. Its just that burgers, fries, etc. just seem so good on vacation we chose those. ;)

I had alot of grilled chicken and baked chicken in WDW and thought they were overall terrific. These places included: 50's Prime Time Cafe (DHS) & Sci Fi Dine in (DHS). The baked chicken at Boma was terrific. I didn't care for the baked chicken at the Biergarten. I also really liked the roasted turkey at LTT character dinner. Turkey sandwiches were very good at Captain Cooks (Poly) and Main St. Bakery. Captain Cooks also has a steamed veggie side dish.

The trick is to find out what "extras" they put on the menu items. Turkey Sandwich tends to not be as healthy if it comes on a croissant and/or with tons of cheese and mayo. Find out if any chicken or turkey dishes come with any sauces you might not like. I asked for many things plain, without cheese, or with sauce on the side. All restaurants were very good at accomodating this.

I was also able to substitute fries for fruit, sliced tomatoes, or cooked veggies.

Things I didn't try, but noticed they had alot of was seafood, especially salmon. Again, find out if they are served in any sauces in case you are concerned about that. Sauces can sometimes ruin a once-healthy meal!

I've heard that Le Cellier serves fairly lean steaks.

You should also be able to find lowfat, nonfat, and no sugar added frozen yogurts and ice cream.

Thanks guys,

I suppose i can ask for plain stuff when i'm feeling healthy but i don't wan't to end up living on chicken alone if you know what i mean. Is it well cooked at the fast places or do you get rubber in a bun?

Kul

I second the Seasons in the Land at Epcot. their mashed potatoes are to DIE for! And the kids meal is plenty for the average person! The chicken there is more rotisserie style. It is SOOOOOOO yummy!

Here are some of the places we've been able to find some lighter fares:
Kona Cafe, California Grill (great sushi), Tokyo Dining, Tusker House Buffet, Boma, Sunshine Seasons at the Land, Morrocco CS, WPE to name just a few.

This is a great list. I have one question though- isn't falafel usually fried?

A wonderful healthy place in Orlando on Kirkman Dr. is Sweet Tomoates. You can go to their website and see a menu. www.sweettomatoes.com

They have the largest salad bar I've ever seen with tons of fresh veggies and soup, bread, muffins and pasta. No meat, except some in some soups and salads.

We really loved it there last month, and the salads are super healthy:thumbsup2

Hi!
Keep these posts coming! I've lost 25 pounds since December and our entire family has completely changed the way we eat. We eat tons of fruits and vegetables and beans and very little meat other than chicken breasts and fish. We've been to Disney over 20 times but this is the first time we'll be going under our new way of eating (which is forever for us). We have two trips planned in the next few months and I've been really worried about how to stay on point while we're on vacation. For us, this isn't a diet but a way of life and even my preteen understands that.

We don't plan on doing the DDP because of the desserts and just the amount of food (we've done it before and loved it actually).

Anyway, thanks for all the tips.

Absolutely!:thumbsup2 We go to mostly "kid-oriented" places and are able to do just fine (when we want to).:rotfl:
