We haven’t had a bad meal there in many trips but I don’t doubt it’s hit or miss. We’ve only eaten there at lunch so maybe not quite as busy and maybe less likely to get overwhelmed?
That's what I always tell people on Facebook. Seems like most negative reviews also mention large crowds and waits. Definitely a correlation. We haven’t had a bad meal there in many trips but I don’t doubt it’s hit or miss. They are amazing if you have never actually had a decent milkshake before. The food portion of the menu is hit or miss. The milkshakes and deserts are amazing.
We had this same experience! We went to both 3 years ago, and our meal at Cowfish was amazing while Toothsome was just "meh." We went again last month, and kids really wanted Toothsome. The meal was amazing - I had the tuna salad, kids had chicken sandwiches, and hubby had the filet. The amount of tuna on my salad was HUGE and it was delicious. It was one of the best things that I have had in a very long time. We all loved our food. The only thing that wasn't great was the bread pudding. The service was top notch, we had a table on the patio and the weather was perfect.I suppose it's a personal choice. I really enjoyed Toothsome and thought Cowfish was severely overhyped.
That's really sad because this is the place that I've been meaning to go to for years, just never happened for one reason or another. It was "number 1" on my current CityWalk list - at least until I read you post...We also changed opinions on cowfish from a 3 times a trip place to 0-1 times. Definitely changed from a few years ago. I hyped this place when we first went maybe 4 years ago. Now it’s just not a huge to-do. Prices have risen , portions dropped and they cheaped out on certain things like using a Parmesan sauce instead of the real stuff.
Agreed! I liked Cowfish a lot, but NBC Grill was the best meal of our trip. And good prices to boot. Their buffalo chicken mac & cheese was the best I've ever had, and I've had a lot to compare it to...NBC sports grill was my favorite of all the places to eat ay CityWalk last time I went.
The hype for Toothsome’s is similar to the hype for Space 220. We’ve done both and don’t plan to eat at either again.Just finished our meal. Ambiance was great. Service was excellent. Appetizers were delish - especially the totchos and chocolate almond bread. That’s where it ended. 3 out of 4 entrees were a mess. I had the chocolate crusted pork tenderloin and it just didn’t work. I expected more savory but the sauce was very sweet. I’d also expect more for my $27 than 4 small bites of pork, 2 pieces od over steamed cauliflower and mashed unseasoned sweet potatoes.
My wife had the Chicken Brece and it was extremely dry with a weird cooking gas or warmer flavor and the Demi glacé was bitter. My daughter had the southern fried chicken sandwich and the chicken was over cooked so the coating was burned and the sandwich bread was dry to the point of being stale/crumbling.
Don’t get the hype at all. We dined here the first month it was open and felt it was very meh but was excited to try it again since I heard the me I had changed. It’s still a no for me. Portion sizes and food prep and bad choices of seasonings/presentation are killing an otherwise beautiful venue. Maybe I’m in the minority since the place was packed but yea.
What!? Is there such a thing as too much butter???We've eaten at Toothsome many times. The burgers & sandwich options end up not so good. My go-to is the Sole / Flounder Amandine (sometimes they are heavy with the butter, so "light butter" is a suggestion for those that aren't sure about a lot of butter). My Dad orders the crepes or French toast options regularly and those are always good. Although we joke about eating dessert followed by dessert. My Dad and a friend of ours really like the Chocolate X 5 milkshake, but I've never found one that I really like, so I tend to order one of the sundaes. They're usually a little cheaper too. I think it's a very much "what you order" place, but our service has been consistently (although a little slower during pandemic for food to arrive) good and sometimes really great. I'd like to go back to Cowfish, but the one time we ate there the service was... not good... and with labor issues being what they are, we haven't wanted to risk going back.
