Tooth fairy ??

Gosh, I think it all depends on each particular family.

When our daughter lost her first tooth (bottom) last year, "Tina the tooth fairy" gave her 3 dollars and a little plastic purse with several flavored chapsticks in it.

Just last week, she lost her first top tooth. "Tina" thought it was "some tooth" and left Lily a fiver! Not sure if "Tina" will be that generous with each and every tooth that follows ;)

We've just started getting into the allowance thing with our kids (ages 5 and 7) and basically, the money they're putting into their allowance jar will be the money they'll have to spend when we head down to Disney for Thanksgiving.

I did 10.00 for the first tooth and 5.00 each after. It get expencive when you have 2 loosing teeth at the same time. DD lost 3 her first time :earseek: thet was 20.00 at one time. DH gets so mad at me.

The Tooth Fairy in my neighborhood (DH) started a bad habit of forgetting if the money was left already so it left it twice for my DS's first tooth. He got $20.00 for his first tooth (should have only been $10.00) so DD got the same for her first tooth. Each tooth after that was a $1.00, with molars being $2.00. Hope that helps.

Yes, the rate varies greatly from child to child!!

In our house it's one GOLD dollar per tooth regardess of the tooth. Of course, it's very difficult to explain why so and so got $5. :confused3

hi there, i have 3 kids, my oldest 14 and one 12, and one turning 10...my oldest daughter has been done for years and i think she got ripped off, she averaged 2-3 dollars per tooth...my younger two seem to average 3-4 dollars for each tooth...i am not sure why the tooth fairy leaves this much, i remember getting a quarter!!! :)
anyways, they have fun with the money and sadly we are almost out of teeth to lose :confused3
i think all kids get different amounts, a couple of my kids had to have a tooth pulled(to make room for the adult) and then they got 5.00.....worth a little more

we did $2 for the first tooth, then $1 for subsequent losses. when the kids began to ask why so and so at school gets $5 or $ 10 (one classmate gets $20 :earseek: ) we told them it's the "law of supply and demand"-if the tooth fairy needs a lot of teeth on a given night and only a handful of kids have put them under their pillows the exchange rate goes up :rotfl: i guess my kids lose their teeth on low demand nights :teeth: dd tried to get around this when she fell off her bike and broke her 2 front teeth-she tired putting the 2 peices under her pillow one night, then when the temp. fix chipped she tried putting these peices under as well (tooth fairy was not fooled  ).

We did $5 for the first and $3 ea after that...and the TF always leaves Sacagawea Dollars.

We have a flat rate of $2.00. Quick funny story... when my first lost his tooth, his younger brothers nose was a little bent out of shape b/c his brother got $ and he didn't. So he decided that he was going to protest brushing his teeth, and just not do it anymore( you know we had been telling him for years,"if you don't brush your teeth, they'll fall out") and he wanted his teeth to fall out so he could get $!!! I told him( while trying not to laugh :rotfl: ) that the Tooth Fairy only takes clean teeth!! Years later he is very happy to be in the " losing teeth" phase of his life! :goodvibes

I too had no idea what the going rate was....when my daughter was 4 she proclaimed a loose tooth Christmas Eve! I was hanging by a thread! I told her that the tooth fairy and Santa Claus can't run into eachother, lol. I know others give larger amounts for the FIRST tooth, but, I didn't. Heck it WAS Christmas, she did pull it out early Christmas morning. I gave her one dollar. I am a single Mom, and, for all of the time, we were very much without money.

*Each and every time she lost a tooth, it was dusted with "FAIRY DUST" a bit of stick glue and glitter, and the tooth fairy left a trail from the window to the bed.

*On vacation, the tooth fairy came prepared, and too much to her surprise, and more so to her cousins, the trail was there, as was the glittery money.

*The tooth fairy did forget on occassion to bring the money in a timely fashion. So, a letter of apology was written on very pretty paper and left along with the money.

*My daughter enjoyed the letters so much, she began having a 'penpal' relationship with the toothfairy. I have saved these letters, they are SO precious. When she lost the last tooth, a goodbye letter was left.

*Daughter is now 12, she has saved each and every toothfairy dollar she has gotten, and still talks about how wonderful the toothfairy is. (She KNOWS, but, its one of those unspoken things)

Those are my thoughts, and I hope someone gets some use out of my suggestions.

Our tooth fairy leaves small presents such as Pokemon cards, small lego sets, books, puzzle etc. The price is usually between $2 to $4. My kids are 6 and 8 so that may change to money when they get older. I am thinking maybe $5 per tooth.

Wow, do I feel cheap! I actually asked DD when her tooth was just a little wiggly if she knew how much $ the tooth fairy left. (Hey, I'm not above pumping a 5-yo for information about this kind of thing!) She told me "a quarter." Guess that was the case in a storybook or movie or something. So for her first tooth, we left 2 quarters and thought that was pretty good by her standards. She was happy for a couple of days until she found out that her friend had received "5" (5 quarters or 5 dollars, I have no idea). But he had lost TWO teeth at once, so I dodged that bullet by saying it's based on the number of teeth you lose at a time. I wonder how long that logic will last?

The tooth fairy is on a budget at my house. For the first tooth Nicole got a dollar (for ever one after too) and a new tooth brush, a special tube of tooth paste (kids charater kind we don't usually buy) a note form the tooth fairy (every time too) and glitter everywhere in bed (every time too).

When I was a Nanny the kids got $10 for each and every tooth. I can't keep up with the Jones so I tired my own spin with the personalized note (typed) and glitter each time. I still want it to be very special and something easy I can keep up with 3 DDs.

Darn, I wish I had thought of the fairy dust! Ds is eleven so to late now :confused3 . Anyway, when my son lost his first tooth, my gift closet was running over becuase of a GREAT sale on star wars toys. I told ds that if he left his tooth under his pillow he would get money, BUT if he left his tooth at the end of the bed, he would get a toy. Guess which he chose? Last time he lost a tooth I was really stressed and busy, just said you don't believe in the tf anymore do you, he said guess not :guilty: wish I had kept it up now. I still make a big deal about santa though, I never understood those parents that say I don't want to lie to my child  party pooper, I just tell my son if you don't believe in santa you don't get a santa present (santa brings the biggest or most coveted gift at our house we get everything else) so ds says he still believes in santa, but in a sweet, lets not hurt moms feelings kind of way. He's such a good boy!

OT, but my friends ds was really opposed to brushing his teeth in first grade. She thought it was just something with him, and had to coax him every evening and night to brush them. He was adament that he wasnt going to brush. This went on for awhile.
Then, a note came home from school. Apparently, there was little boy in the class who had rather bad teeth, and for whatever reason, had to have many of them gold capped. The children in the class had decided that they all wanted gold teeth too, and someone came up with the idea to not brush! So the majority of the class had been trying to get out of brushing in hopes of getting gold teeth!!
Needless to say, once the teacher found out, they all got a talking to and the letter went home. :rotfl:

I know I'm late to this thread, but wanted to bite.
We get books here. Whenever DD8 brings home those Scholastic catalogs, I always buy some. I have a present drawer that's mostly full of books. For the first tooth, DD got the Berenstain Bears Visit to the Dentist. The tooth fairy autographed that one. Since then, the tooth fairy chooses a book and leaves it wherever the tooth got left. DS4 can't believe that he hasn't lost a tooth yet. He's getting a bit resentful. ;)

Oh, and DD has me figured. She'll ask for things like any kid, but then get this really sly look on her face and say, "Well, what about a book. You can never have too many books." :rolleyes1

Great ideas everyone. I love the idea of fairy dust and the books too. I am not too sure what I am going to do yet money wise. We live in an area where the kids most likely get a dollar. I don't my DD to be the kid coming in saying she got a $10. SO I think we will do $5 for the first in Disney dollars and $2 after that. Keep the ideas coming they haven't fallen out yet.

I left $1 for the first tooth, $2 for the second....I have a cute story though

My DD7, she has just been losing teeth since I've been planning our trip. Everytime the tooth fairy comes, or she gets money for any reason, she gives me half of her money to put in our Disney World jar. :goodvibes I argue with her about it, and she says "no Mommy, you take it, I have enough money" So I do, because I think she has learned a good lesson (and she's going to get it back in the end anyway :teeth: ) Ain't she sweet! :flower:
