Hi everyone! Well, as some of you know I have been planning my first official WDW trip since last January when I bought a DVC interest. (the trip in the 70's when there was just a much smaller Magic Kingdom doesn't count (especially since I can barely remember it!))

I am taking my Mom with me . . . . my Dad passed away four or so years ago and since then I try to get her out and about . . . . not always an easy proposition because she has a herniated disc and has to walk with a walker. Add to that: two years ago she almost died from a perforated bowel--she was in the hospital three months, had to have two surgeries and ended up with a colostomy. (I know--TMI!) But the good news is that the following year she had the colostomy reversed so she is back to "normal." Then earlier this year it turned out that the skin cancer she had been battling on her face (from too much sun when she was younger :scared1: :scared1: ) was out of control and she had to have a major portion of her face replaced with skin and tissue from her thigh (not just a skin transplant--they had to transplant blood vessels and everything in a 9+ hour surgery). Well, being the trooper she is she came through it with flying colors and is now finishing up (week after next) some prophylactic radiation. Unfortunately, as of right now she has lost her sense of taste from the radiation, which I'm hoping she will get back prior to our trip! (Fingers crossed!)

So, here's the plan (I'll add some pictures later!):

The cast:

Me: Toocherie: 51 years old and a veteran of many many day and short-term trips to Disneyland. Made possible by living just 15 minutes from DLR and a premium annual pass. A regular on the Disneyland board and a veteran also of the first Ladies' Only trip to DLR (and looking forward to the second one in March 2009!)

Mom: 77 years old and known herein as "Puddy" the nickname my Dad had for her (as in "I think I saw a "Puddycat"). Her 78th birthday will be mid-trip.

Location and Time: WDW/staying in two studios at the Saratoga Springs Resort from November 1, 2008 to November 8, 2009. We leave LAX on the evening of Halloween on a Red Eye flight. (I think Ambien will be my friend since I don't like to fly and that will knock me out!)

We are taking Puddy's scooter with us (a decision just made today) and will gate check it at the airport. We are flying Delta. We will use Magical Express for transportation to our resort. As of now we will not be renting a car but depend on Disney transportation.

I will also be renting a scooter from an off-site company, as I have fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis and two replaced knees! and want to enjoy WDW as much as I can!

Schedule:

11/1 Saturday: arrive in Orlando early in a.m. 6:00 a.m. and use Magical Express to resort (Saratoga Springs). We can take our time and not rush, because our first scheduled event isn't until 12 noon lunch at the resort. If we have time after arriving and rooms aren't ready, we can go check out DTD until lunchtime (and hopefully after lunch rooms will be ready).

11/2 Sunday: Morning and lunchtime--Epcot
Late afternoon and dinner: Hollywood Studios
Rest at the resort in evening

11/3 Monday: Animal Kingdom. Since our ADR for dinner is at Animal Kingdom lodge, I will probably plan to make this our "only" Animal Kingdom day and then spend some time watching animals a thte resort before dinner, then get back to our resort for rest.

11/4 Tuesday: Puddy's Birthday (and election day!): Magic Kingdom Day! Since both of our ADRs are for this park, we will probably stay here all day and maybe watch the fireworks that night.

11/5 Wednesday: Resort Day! Morning is at Wilderness Lodge for Breakfast and evening is seeing Beach Club and Boardwalk. In between, if Puddy is up for it, I would like to see the Grand Floridian and some of the other resorts if we can get there.

11/6 Thursday: Start out with Breakfast at the Polynesian (want Kona Coffee and Tonga Toast!) and then spend the day at Hollywood Studios.

11/7 Friday: our last full day -- hopfully capped off with a fab dinner at California Grill watching the fireworks!

11/8: Saturday: check out, and then our flight lights in late afternoon/early evening. Maybe spend more time at DTD before we leave.

Of course, all plans are subject to change depending on our moods!

Dining Plans: I have made the following ADRs but am actually wrestling with whether we will keep all of these or not. We are still grappling with whether to do the dining plan or not.

11/1 Saturday: lunch at Turf Club/SSR after arriving at resort 12:00
: dinner at Raglan Road/DTD (although may try to do
HoopDeDoo instead) 6:30 p.m.

11/2 Sunday: Lunch at Le Cellier/Epcot 11:30 a.m.
: Dinner at Brown Derby/Hollywood Studios 5:50 p.m.

11/3 Monday: Tusker House Character Breakfast/Animal Kindom 10:30 a.m.
: Dinner at Jiko/AKL 6 p.m.

11/4 Tuesday: Puddy's Birthday
Breakfast at Cinderella's Royal Table 10:05 a.m.
Dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern 5:45 p.m.

11/5 Wednesday: Breakfast at Whispering Canyon/WL 10:15 a.m.
Dinner at Spoodles/Beach Club 7:05 p.m.

11/6 Thursday: Breakfast at O'Hana's/Polynesian Resort 10:00 a.m.
Dinner at 50's Prime Time Cafe/Hollywood Studio 6:20 p.m.

11/7 Friday: Breakfast at Boma/AKL 10:45 a.m.
Dinner at California Grill/Contemporary Resort 7:55 p.m.

So that's the info for now, check back for more later!

Hello! I found you!!

I am so jealous of you and this trip you get to enjoy with your Mom. She has been through so much, and this is so special for the both of you.

Your plans sound good so far. Things will probably change as time goes on. With the dinners you have planned, I wonder if the dining plan would be a good idea for you.:confused3 I don't know what it cost now, but it sure worked out nice for my family when we went. But I'm sure you have done your homework on that! :thumbsup2 I just went back and noticed your 3 special dinners. Do they still take 2 points for each one?

Looking forward to more Pre-TR!

Your trip sounds fab! I would think about the deluxe dining plan for sure unless you guys are not interested in appetizers or deserts at all. I printed out the most recent menus of all the places we are interested in then did a sample of our meals bills and the deluxe plan was much less.
I can not wait to read more!

Hello! I found you!!

Yes, you did! I'm glad--and looking forward to seeing you in October! I fixed the link in my sig!

I am totally going back and forth on Dining Plan, no Dining Plan, or Deluxe Dining Plan. Truthfully, my Mom and I end up splitting a lot of meals (or ending up with a lot of leftovers) so I'm afraid an appetizer and dessert for both of us will really do us in. (We won't have DBF with us to clean up after us!)

Anyway, I promised some pictures so here we go. These are from Puddy's birthday last November at DLR from the Storyteller's character breakfast:

Me:

this is Puddy/Mom (note this is prior to her recent surgery):

DisneyBirthday2008015.jpg

and to let you know about the rest of the 'family' I have two cats--one who is approximately 11 and was the cat of a friend whose son developed an allergy to cats--so they called me up and TOLD me I had to take their cat (not that I minded). His name is Chase, and he is a "prince"--

DisneyBirthday2008148.jpg

the other one is approximately two years old and used to belong to a DLR CM--she moved to another apartment and couldn't keep him. Her fiance happened into my house one day to change my dead battery in my car, saw Chase and said--"if you know someone who would like to adopt a Seal Point Siamese let me know." What he didn't know (and this still gives me goosebumps) is that I had just gone through the whole process of getting approved for Siamese Rescue because I used to always have Siamese before Chase! And I definitely wanted a Seal Point. So, my "Disney cat"--Raja--is very special too because I feel like he was led to my house. Here he is--he's pretty shy around other people but he LOVES me!

Ok--so more about me and the trip later . . . . . everyone have a great evening!

Cheryl

Wow, your trip plans sound great! I'm so happy you are able to do this with your mom. You are seriously one of the nicest people I know and you two deserve to have this great trip together. :)

I can't wait to read more! Oh, and I love the pics of your cats. I am definitely a cat person. :cat:

:goodvibes I think it's so nice that you are going with your mother!!!!! Your plans look great.

Oh, and I love the pics of your cats. I am definitely a cat person. :cat:

The white fluffy one (the "prince") is the one that bedeviled Stacielee when she was at my house. He can be quite persistent! His favorite thing to do is sit by my head in the morning and purr until I get up and feed him. (After all, he IS royalty.)

The other one Stacie and her friend never saw--he was under the bed whenever they were there. He's a bit "shy"--:goodvibes My friends from the Middle East were here almost a week in July and it was only the 6th or 7th day before he would come out and let them see him.

More later!

LOL "the prince" :rotfl:
How cute. He sort of looks like the pamered feline from Cinderella. Just sort of has that air about him.

Can't wait to read more.

More like "Morris the Cat." :lmao:

More like "Morris the Cat." :lmao:

Boy--have you got him tagged! Can I just say, he is a _____for food (rhymes with snore--but with a wh at the beginning)!

The picture actually doesn't do him justice--he is a flame point Himalayan--my friends got him when the husband and wife had a bet--and if she won she got to pick any cat she wanted. He lost . . . . she spent a huge amount on this cat . . . . then had to give him up because of her son's allergies.

Of course, I totally spoiled him . . . . I can't eat a meal without giving him a bite or two--he just sits and stares at me until I give it to him. And when they come over he runs and hides--we're convinced it's because he NEVER wants to go back to the plain ol' dry cat food which was his sole diet with them. He never hides from anyone else . . . . .

OK--so my internet connection at home was down last night, so I'm doing a quick update at lunchtime.

First, our schedule has already changed. I decided rather than do Ragland Road on the first night that we should do the HoopDeeDoo--so called on Tuesday and made arrangements for that. My Mom loves those kinds of shows and she will love the food too!

Now I'm in the process of trying to plan which attractions we will want to do for sure when we are in each park. So I'm printing out a list of the attractions in each park and "ranking" them. In some cases, I know they will be a "no" because getting Mom in and out will be impossible (CMs are not allowed to help lift people in and out of rides and I can't do it.) In other cases it's a "no" because it's something I don't want to ride (like Space Mountain or Tower of Terror--go figure!)

I think we will have more than enough things to do in each park to keep us busy. Since the only day I know "for sure" where we will be is November 4th--when we will be in the Magic Kingdom for CRT at Breakfast and Liberty Tree Tavern for dinner, I've decided to attack that park first. Here is the list of attractions and my thoughts on each: either a "Must Do" a "Maybe" or a "No Way, Jose!"

• Space Mountain --No Way Jose!
• Splash Mountain -- No Way Jose!
• Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor Must Do
• "it's a small world" Maybe--would like to see differences from DL, if they have a handicapped boat that we can get Mom on.
• Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin Must Do
• Cinderella's Golden Carousel No Way Jose!
• Country Bear Jamboree Must Do
• Donald's Boat ?????? What is this?
• Dumbo The Flying Elephant Maybe--but probably not
• Pooh's Playful Spot ???????
• Mickey's Country House ???????
• Mickey's PhilharMagic Must Do
• Minnie's Country House ???????
• Peter Pan's Flight Maybe
• The Enchanted Tiki Room Maybe--would like to see differences from DL
• The Magic Carpets of Aladdin Maybe
• The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh Maybe
• Tomorrowland® Transit Authority Must Do--miss the PeopleMover
• Astro Orbiter No Way Jose
• Big Thunder Mountain Railroad No Way Jose
• Mad Tea Party No Way Jose
• Pirates of the Caribbean Must Do--want to see differences from DL
• Snow White's Scary Adventures Maybe
• Stitch's Great Escape!™ Maybe--have heard it's yucky but I love Stitch!
• The Barnstormer at Goofy's Wiseacre Farm No Way Jose
• Tomorrowland® Indy Speedway No Way Jose
• Cinderella Castle We'll be there for Breakfast!
• Jungle Cruise Maybe
• Liberty Square Riverboat Must Do
• Main Street Vehicles No Way Jose
• Swiss Family Treehouse Double No Way Jose
• The Hall Of Presidents Will be closed when we are there
• The Haunted Mansion Must Do
• Tom Sawyer Island No Way Jose
• Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress Must Do--another blast from the past!
• Walt Disney World® Railroad Maybe--if they have a handicapped car

So, it looks like I have nine "must do's":

Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor
Mickey's Philharmagic
Liberty Square Riverboat
Haunted Mansion
Pirates of the Caribbean
Carousel of Progress
Buzz Lightyear
Country Bear Jamboree
Tomorrowland Transit Authority/PeopleMover

For those of you WDW vets, are these all do-able in one day? (Considering we will be doing two sit-down meals?) I'd have no trouble doing similar things in DL, but being that this is a new place I'm just not sure--PLUS I don't want to overtire my Mom. And if we do have "free" time then we will work in some of the "maybes" as we can.

Anyway, let me know your thoughts!

More later!

I think it is wonderful that you are going with your mom! Isn't it great when WE get to take our parents to Disney parks and cater to them like they did when we were little. :goodvibes

I am going with both my parents to Disneyland very soon (we leave in about a week). My mom will also have to rent an ECV due to health problems (but she says she wants to rent inside the park because she does not trust an outside company--go figure ).

My mom also said her dream is to go to WDW (she has not been before), so I'm waiting until I have more money and am not a poor law student so I can take her and my dad to the Polynesian (my dbf, his bro, SIL and niece stayed at Shades of Green in '06 and I fell in love with the Poly).

Thanks for writing this trip report. I look forward to reading it to gain some insight on how this future WDW trip will be planned...

Thanks for reading! Where are you staying off-site? It can be quite a hike into the parks from some of the hotels-

I have the names of a couple of really good companies that rent ECVs at Disneyland--it's usually cheaper and they are good quality (better imho than Disneylands)

By the way--good luck in law school! I am in my 26th year of law practice . . . . .

I LOVE Mickey's Philharmagic!!! I know you and your mom will too. :goodvibes

Cheryl, I'm enjoying you report so far. Philharmagic is great! We went on it several times when we werelast in the World in 2006. I'd think you wouldn't have trouble seeing everything you want at Magic Kingdom. Everything you've listed is either high capicity or fast loading, so you should be made in the shade!
Will the Food and Wine fest still be going on when you're there? If so, you might want to count on some extra time in Epcot.
Please keep us posted on your plans. I'm living vicariously through you at the moment!

I'm cracking up at your No Way Jose's!!!:lmao: :lmao:

Cheryl, you have to do ToT!!!! Even if you are solo!! It is soooooooo cool! My all time favorite ride at WDW, close to Mickeys Philharmonic. And aren't you going to do Mission to Mars? :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

:lmao:

Geesh, I just realized you were only planning the MK. But my advice still stands!:flower3:

Well, . . .. I'm going to practice on the TOT at DL. Maybe this weekend--I'm taking my Mom . . . her first trip post-surgery (and to celebrate the end of her radiation on Wednesday)

and if not then maybe one of my Dis girlfriends will coax me on in October--I really want to do it--I'm just such a chicken. What's really weird is that when I was a kid I LOVED  roller coasters and such. And now, I'm just a wimp! It's like a girlfriend of mine--she used to love flying, and then she had kids and now she's a nervous wreck . . . (guess because she's worried about what would happen to them if the plane crashed)

I, however, have no children and don't have that worry. And if I died I would have rich kitty cats!

Yes the other parks are coming . . . have been busy busy with other things (although I also have been going back and forth on the whole dining plan dilemma, which will probably be my next installment).

What a great start to your trip! I think your MK day sounds great. I agree you shouldn't have any trouble hitting everything in one day.

If the Food & Wine is still going on you definately need to add some time to Epcot.

Loved your cat photos!
