Too Many Acronymns!

That isn't what I'm suggesting. I've explained it four or five times now.

Since we've been educated here on how experienced Disney fans communicate, I wonder when Disney will start printing TT on the park guides and tell folks that if you don't understand that it means Test Track, you should just ask a cast member?

My post count isn't very high but I have been reading a lot for years. I like the abbreviations. I like figuring them out and I think in abbreviations more often than the full words for many if me. Typing out Be Our Guest actually takes much more effort than some may think when I am always thinking BOG. Using the foreign language analogy, it would be like thinking "cheese" but remembering to type "queso". It would annoy me to have to do it enough that I would respond less to anything. And frankly, while newbies on the boards are fun to have, IMO the lifeblood is in the long term users. They are the ones with the most experience, info and help. And frankly, over accommodating users who come on for a few weeks every few years in preparation for a trip at the expense of alienating board regulars seems ridiculous to me.

Oh, I'm sorry. I wasn't aware that I, and people like me, was a major inconvenience to your private club. That is by far the most cliquey comment I've ever read!

... and I don't only post when I've got a trip in the pipeline. I happen to like the comradeship that you get with like-minded people on relelvant forums (such as Disney sites and crafting sites).

What you're saying is that you don't give a *beep* about anyone who hasn't been a member for a long time and if we can't understand you, we don't deserve to be here! I'm absolutely gobsmacked! :confused3

Oh please, talk about hyperbole.

At first when I joined I was overwhelmed as well. However, most times when I googled it I would figure it out. It just took some getting used to & some willingness to learn on my end. :)

this is SO true!!!! I was talking to a friend (a DVC OWNING friend :rotfl2: ) about our upcoming trip and mentioned our ADR's...her reply..."what the hell is an ADR?" :lmao:

I have to direct her to the DIS I guess... ;)

Listen, I was talking to someone at the end of a phone who works for Disney and saying that I'm only on the QSDP next holiday and won't need to make any ADRs - and she didn't know what an ADR was!!

Yes I know what you are suggesting. We should type everything out the first time we use it in a thread then move on to acronyms. It's not gonna happen. Here is what we are suggesting: Make an effort and learn the acronyms if you want to participate on any Disney board. Try going to other boards other than DIS, there are many of them and they all use the same acronyms. Like I said, it's a culture all over the world. If you want to participate, you have to learn the culture.:teacher: It's really not that hard. I dont know why it's so hard for you.....:confused3

I have no idea what an ADR is either. But I'm not afraid to ask so I will know next time I read it. So what's an ADR?

The acronyms are for message boards so your sarcastic statement here makes no sense:rolleyes:

Nah, I'm not gonna tell you! You can go and look it up!

:rotfl2:

No, it means Advance Dining Reservation and it's something you do when you're on the DDP or just want to book a table service meal and pay out of pocket.

Acronyms are how it's done on the DIS. There's a handy thread that explains them all.

Wow.....just wow. So sorry the mindless morons like me who has spent 50+ days in the MK but just discovered this site can be rescued by you sage Jedis who can save me, at the expense of having to take time out of your inner sewing circle of Disney brilliance. Forgive us, your highness.

I know you're trying to be cute, but you're the only one who answered that way. Four people gave her the actual answer. The only time I've seen anyone link that thread to answer a questions is when the question is, "Where can I find a list of acronyms?"

Fail.

Thanks for the disrespectful eye roll.

So you are saying that it's fine to use abbreviations on message boards where people may not understand those abbreviations, but outside of a message board, is where you draw the line on using abbreviations that people may not understand?
