Okay, our vacation habits for Disney will be as follows...every other year starting in 2010, in a one-bedroom at BWV, standard view, for 10 nights in July. So of course, we are looking to buy a resale for BWV so that will be our home resort. That is already established. I was looking at points charts for BWV. 10 nights in a one-bedroom standard view would be 294 points. That fits into our every other year plan. But, then there would be 6 points left, so what could we do? Nothing, I am guessing.

I know all about banking, but we are going every other year, so banking would do us no good. I am assuming it is IMPOSSIBLE to rent out 6 lousy points!! Do we just eat them? Sorry, I'm new at all this and trying to get to know how it all works! And I have learned a lot already so thank you to everyone!!

Sure you can bank and use the points- I am assuming you have a 150 point contract, no?

Example
2008 trip use 150 2008 points plus borow 144 2009 points. bank the extra 6 2009 points into 2010.
2009- take the year off.
2010- use 6 banked points, plus 150 2010 points plus borrow 138 2011 points. Bank 12 2011 points into 2012...

Eventally you will have a year where you will have enough points for an extra little 3 night stay or something.

Keep banking those 6 points. Use the banked points each year for your reservation and bank again. Eventually you will have enough extra points beyond the 294 to book extra nights or maybe go for BW view or try another resort.

I think everyone is suggesting start by borrowing points from the next year instead of starting off banking so that you can still bank those extra 6 points.

Okay, so I get it...borrow the extra points instead of banking them. This is a good idea, but the only way it wouldn't work is if we decide once we are on our first trip home that we want to go back the following year, then we would be out of points to do that and have to keep borrowing. But this is my only choice, right?

There are many variables and many options, but if you are going to go more often, stay longer or reserve larger accommodations than you originally planned, you are going to need more points. Plain and simple, LOL!

FWIW, going more often, staying longer and inviting family and friends on your vacations is a common "problem" for DVC members. It is almost always the reason families end up spending more on vacations after DVC than they did before DVC.

Buyer beware! :teeth:

:thumbsup2 AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As I sit here this morning posting away asking questions about adding on. OMG DVC IS AN ILLNESS AND I HAVE IT REALLY BAD. :rotfl: We have 300 points and I want another 100 and I am sure a year or two from now....that will not be enough.

The OP should buy more points.......that is my advice.
