Too Blunt?

My FIL. When we told him we were expecting our third child - "What did you do that for?"

oh I had that one from an old guy friend. DH and I had just had our first child and I called old guy friends mum to tell her ( weird situation but we were always close). Guy friend called and reamed me out saying " WT (insert explectives here) did you do that for????"

I never spoke to him after that.

Yes I have know lots of people who were fliter impaired.

Oh, I don't resent people with faulty filters (then again, if it was my MIL, I can see how I might!). I just think it's interesting. I mean, on what planet is it okay to see a coworker with a new haircut and say "Why would you do that to your hair?"

I could see a spouse or a sister tactfully trying to point out maybe it wasn't the most flattering haircut, but IMHO, that's about it. I mean, what is the point of someone who doesn't live in Cantw8's house telling Cantw8 her curtains are ugly?

Yep. It really depends on the relationship, I think. With some people you just feel comfortable enough in the relationship to be able to speak your mind. But no, not with a coworker, unless that person was your BFF or something. But even then, there are sure nicer ways of saying it.

Sometimes I don't think it's a filter problem at all. It's a passive-aggressive problem in disguise. IMO, you can generally tell the difference when someone hits you with a zinger and "attempts" to soften it up in the next sentence. In other words, the offender knows exactly what they are doing!

Yes, a coworker. I have to work really hard at ignoring her, or letting that stuff go in one ear and out the other!

I know someone like that. I put my foot down when this person told dd that she was getting fat, and they didn't like her clothes. They told dd that if they had gone to school like that; they would have asked her which charity her clothes came from. My niece was wearing the same outfit as dd, but this person never said a word to her(not that she should have anyway). I told this person that they needed to be mindful of what they say because it can do some serious damage to a little girl (dd was 13 at the time). Needles to say, this person has never commented about dd since. They know if they do they will have to deal with me.

My wife works at a place full of filterless idiots. She brings home daily stories about inappropriate things said to her, such as:

Your pants are too tight but I really like it.

Hmm...I see you're wearing a thong today. (this one came in a txt msg)

You've gained a lot of weight since you started working here.

*poking belly* Are you pregnant?! (no)

Your makeup looks terrible...have you been crying? (no)

I'll think about it some more and post more later.

I work with somebody who seems to be filterless. I swear her brain chemicals are just way out of whack. She's a very hard worker and will always has everybody else's back, but the things that come out of her mouth are :scared1: .

Most people who appear to be filterless I think are just plain mean, but this particular person just seems to lack the filter. :confused3

MY FIL is like that..

My Grandfather was like that as well (RIP).

Sometimes, I will slip and say something stupid. My mouth works faster than my brain sometimes.

I agree; I think we're talking about 2 different types of people.

One group purposefully chooses to disregard the filter's warning beep.

The other group lacks the warning beep altogether.

My DD16 could use a better filter.
