Too bad Gotcha day isn't recognized as a birthday

We're going May 12-19 to celebrate DD's 2nd Gotcha Day. We can't believe it's been 2 years already!!

Our kiddos are adopted from Guatemala and both of their Gotcha Days are in the fall. But, we can't go to WDW then. So, we celebrate it in the summer when we go. When I made our adr's the CM asked what we were celebrating and when I told her about our Gotcha Days, she was very sweet about it. Though, I don't know if the restaurants will do anything about it. But, it doesn't matter, we will still enjoy it!

We just call it "Adoption Day", but it is right before Halloween. We usually go out to dinner to celebrate, but we haven't celebrated at WDW.

Have fun!

OMG!! AWWWW!! "Gotcha Day!" is such a cute name for the day... and your DD is the cutest thing!! :lovestruc How could you *not* love her to pieces?!

Disney totally needs a button for this. I bet one of the creative folks on the creative Disigns board can make you one!

We have two Gotcha Days in our house, and this year celebrated in Disney, and in Hilton Head. :)
Happy Gotcha Day to your little girl!

We're going in July with my daughter, adopted from China. I'm hoping there will be a bounceback promotion for her Gotcha Day in November. I love going that time of year anyway and we always do something special. The celebration buttons are a good idea! Maybe dinner at the Nine Dragons restaurant (though my little princess would no doubt prefer to hold court with the other Princesses over at Norway or in the Castle).

When we went in 2007 we got pins and "made" them Gotcha Day buttons. I also arranged for the diver at Coral Reef (they don't do this anymore) to hold up a sign wishing my kids a Happy Gotcha Day.

Robo, my DS8's Gotcha Day is April 15th and when went to court the judge teased us about getting a new tax dependent on tax day.

Our other two children's Gotcha Day is July 6th and our DS9's birthday is July 7th.

HAPPY GOTCHA DAY, FAMILY DAY, to all of our adopted children.

I can't imagine my life without my children. For the longest time I never could understand why God would not allow me to have children, and now I know. I was meant to be my kids' mother.

I made a "Today is my Gotcha Day" button when we went for my daughter's in 2006. A couple of people asked what that meant, but it didn't draw much attention, more in the way of funny looks. But the server at Chef Mickey's made a big deal out of it, and she was happy to wear it, which was the point. Have fun!

What a fun thread!

We'll be in WDW next year for my oldest's "gotcha day" on January 27th. Two of our current four are adopted, with another one on the way. We tend to celebrate "gotcha" day more than their actual adoption days because both of our children came to us as foster children first, so my oldest's adoption wasn't finalized until she'd been home with us for two years and my son's probably won't be finalized until just before we get to WDW. You just have to love the speediness of the court system, lol.

For those with Children from China-take your kids to Epcot's China-the CM's tend to make a "fuss" over our kids. :thumbsup2

AWWWWWWWW!!!

I was adopted and have never heard of the "Gotcha Day". I LOVE IT!!! Although I was adopted at 19 days old, I still think Gotcha Day would have been a fun celebration!! Enjoy your celebration the The World.

Thanks! When Mulan spotted my DD dressed in her Mulan dress, she walked over and took DD by the hand and just started walking away LOL. They had quite a chat LOL.:cloud9:

That's awesome. Gotta love the Disney magic. :lovestruc I bet your DD was on cloud nine!:cloud9:

My son's Gotcha Day is January 12. He gets to choose the restaurant, and inevitably he chooses Japanese food. He loves it, his sisters hate it. So from his point of view it's a "two-fer."

Love this thread!

We got our daughter though a domestic adoption from WI and I have not ever heard of Gotcha Day...does it pertain more to international adoptions? We got our daughter the day she was born (Christmas eve!!) and her Adoption day is Sept 6th. I think a trip to Disney would be the absolute best way to celebrate but DH is not into Disney so much. Boooooo.

Congratulations to all of you out there!! And Happy Gotcha Days!

Our children were adopted through the foster care system and we celebrate Gotcha Day so no it is not just international adoption.

Our daugthers share the same birthday (Dec. 24th). :lovestruc

Seconding the fact that "gotcha day" is for all adoptions. My son was adopted through the foster care system. We met two weeks after he was born and we celebrate three days: his actual birthday, gotcha day, and the day his adoption was finalized. Yeah, he might end up being a little spoiled! ;)

My youngest son's gotcha day (or family day) is in January. But his birthday is in July. And we will be in Disney in June. So no button I guess. ;) He is also from Korea. :)
