Reader's Digest version:

New end of the night show beginning July 1st: fireworks, lasers, and four huge 3-story globes in the lagoon (I assume by Citywalk) where they will show clips from Universal's classic movies. Called "Universal 360: A Cinesphere Spectacular."

"The High In The Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride" (official new name I guess) opens June 1st in Seuss Landing in IOA.

A new CityWalk bar, The Red Coconut, opens in late May. It "will strive for a "Rat Pack cool, hip" feel set in a 1970s decor, will feature live bands and dancing, and seek a clientele aged from the late 20s to 40s."

Bubba Gump opens in CityWalk July 1st.

Thanks for the news. I didnt know the Sky trolley was being marketed for small children and their famlies. The Red Coconut sounds cool. A Cinesphere Spectacular is so awesome. I'm looking forward to that the most! Universal has needed a closing theme for so long and I never understood why they didnt aim to keep the guests till closing. It sounds very interesting.

Does anyone know if this is a permanent event or will it only be for the summer???

We are going during Thanksgiving and would love to see it.

We always stay on-site but have never stayed until park closing, because we pretty much finish everything we want to do and there is no nighttime entertainment for us to wait for, so we usually go back to the room to relax and swim.

I would love to see them!!!

Universal would not disclose the project's contractors but said much of the construction and programming is being done by Universal's engineers. The technology has been used in Europe, but not anything like the scale Universal is planning, said Jim Timon, senior vice president of entertainment.

"It's a pretty cool computer trick, by taking the four projectors that actually project around the surface of the sphere and computer-blending the edges, so that to the eye it appears like continuous imaging," he said. "We also have a fifth projector that projects straight up."

The technology offers other opportunities too, Gault said. For Halloween Horror Nights, Universal could produce a horror video show for the spheres. For Mardi Gras, stage shows could be projected live into the spheres. The screens could even broadcast NBC-TV shows, perhaps the Olympics, he said.

"The video boys are going to be busy for a long time here," Timon said.

it sounds pretty permanent. the more I read about it, the more I like it.

As I posted over in my group (www.chainsawwolf.com), read the third paragraph posted above very carefully, especially the second sentence, with the thought in mind that this is a show for the lagoon in the Studios, as opposed to IOA. :rolleyes1

Wolf.

I see your point, Wolf, and I definitely think you're right; another indication HHN is coming home.

BTW, Sylvester McBean, still like your name better than "High in the Sky Suess Trolley" or whatever it is they've settled on.

does Universal have a history of soft openings for new rides or do they stick to the published opening date? i'm wondering if it'll be open in mid-May.
thanks.

I would also love to see a night show at Universal-- we go in mid to late August, and they are done with the night shows already!
