Attempting my first waitlist. 2 resorts that I am considering have an unavailable day right in the middle of what I need. I am not interested in doing a split stay for this trip since it's pretty short. It seems like the system is set up to make me make a reservation for the first half, then a separate reservation for the second half and THEN waitlist the unavailable day. Is that correct? Seems messy and complicated, not to mention if the waitlist doesn't come through I'm stuck with a weird hole in the middle of my trip. Any workarounds?

You can book it that way - the two legs that are available and waitlist the day in the middle. Hopefully it matches. If not you'll have to find something to do that night so it is a risk.

You can also book a resort that is available for your whole trip and waitlist what you want. So for example book a week at Saratoga or Old Key West, and waitlist that week at Beach Club. While a whole week's waitlist is less likely to match because every night has to be available at once, at least you're guaranteed to not have to switch rooms.

Finally, if you have the points to float you could do both and cancel one before the holding penalty kicks in if one or the other works out better. (You can set the one-night waitlist to replace the week-long Saratoga reservation in my above example).

This is what you should do as well as keep checking the website.

As mentioned, the other option is to choose one resort that is available and waitlist all nights…but they won’t hold what is there for you so you’d need all those to be available at the same time for it to fill

Will the system let you set a waitlist for all nights even if some of the nights are available? I can't seem to navigate to that option on the member site. Does that option become available if you have a reservation for the same dates at another resort? Is that something you need to call member services to set up?

Yes. You can create that waitlist online without having it replace a previous reservation.

Say you need four nights and it shows one night is available after the search. On the page where the website auto-selected the single night available pick your desired four nights on the calendar again and it will change the button from dark blue "continue" to light blue with dark blue outline "continue to waitlist."
