Never had it, but have seen it described a really thick French Toast that is stuffed with sliced bananas, so I guess "pan fried" would be the description.
We can't tell if this actually fried or not. Sometimes when we have gotten it it has been very greasy as if it was fried but other times it has not be greasy at all and doesn't seem to have been fried. It may depend on how much butter the cook uses or something. I don't really like it when it's greasy. Luckily we have only had one bad greasy experience. This last week when we got it is wasn't greasy at all.
thanks.. just wondering if it is like a doughboy (northeast fried dough)... really good but stays with you all day and not in a fond way
TMI? sorry
Jill
My DH had the tonga toast in February. He loved it. It wasn't greasy but was fried. I'm from the north too (NH!) so I know what you mean by fried dough. Still reminds me of the beach. The south calls it funnel cake and it's so not the same thing but good in it's own right! So, I'd consider the tonga toast to be lightly fried but not as heavy as fried dough! My DH was definitely hungry by lunch time. It's goooood, I ate a couple bites o his!
In any case, it is pretty rich(but tasty). You might want to share an order. If someone with you was getting eggs benedict and you could split the orders, that would be perfect(unless you don't like eggs benedict!)
