I love my name. My daddy chose it. I like it because it is not heard a lot but also not uncommon.

Meh. Born in 1967 -- I'm a Cheryl, and my mother named me after her cousin, just because she liked the name. Growing up, everyone spelled my name with an S, but now the C is much more normalized.

I never had anyone with my name in any of my classes, in school or college, but as I age, I have several friends named Cheryl with the right spelling!

I love my name! My dad picked my first name out while still in high school and long before he was married. He just always liked the name and thought it was a perfect girls name to go with his last name. And thankfully, my mother liked it too. My middle name was taken from the end of my mom's first name. Kind of a way to give me a part of her too.

My only complaint about my name is that it has way too many spellings (this is true for first, middle, and last). I normally automatically spell it now and still get some interesting spellings back.

I like my first name now but not as much growing up. I'm Stephen after my grandfather (fathers side) and middle name Thomas after my other grandfather (mothers side). I'm the youngest of 5 and was given my name as my father was walking up the church steps for my christening. My oldest sister, who was 13 at the time, actually suggested the name to my Dad!!

Didn't really care for my first name growing up because somehow it got shortened to Stevie which I really disliked. It took me into my late 20's to finally get my parents and siblings to start calling me Steve instead of Stevie!!

My name is okay, but growing up I didn’t like it. It was too uncommon. I’m named after the actress who played Mrs. Munster on “The Munster” TV show, Yvonne DeCarlo. She was in the movie my parents saw on their first date.

I've always been fine with my first name - as far as I know, I'm not named after anyone (my middle name is my father's).

The only issue I've had with my name is the spelling (and occasionally the pronunciation). I'm Stephen (not Steven or Stefan). That's why it's easier to go by Steve.

From one Stephen to another I understand completely!!!

I like my name and always have. I’m not named after anyone; my parents just liked the name Angela too.

I like my name. I think my got it from an actress (or possibly a character they played) - but just because she liked it, not for the person specifically.

I am also a Sandra. I do go by it professionally and use it on some social media because it shows me who really knows me and who doesn't. For example, if someone addresses me as Sandra because it lists my full name, it leads me to feel like they probably don't know or remember me as well. Conversely, if someone calls me Sandy, it tells me that they either know or knew me well and remember that I almost never go by my legal name in social circles or among those who have known me for some time. I had one college friend who wanted to make me unique and call me DRA. Yeah, I hated that and it never really took. I am named after one of my great grandfathers.

Additionally, I have one of those chunky diamond nameplate rings that I wear pretty frequently. I always think people look pretty foolish if they call me Sandra to my face when I'm wearing such a standout piece of jewelry that clearly says Sandy. I give some grace because not everyone is in clear view of my hands, but if they are...especially for a prolonged period...it seems pretty off to me.

Never really thought about liking it or not. Seems okay to me. When growing up, most of my friends called me Murph, like many other Murphy's I guess. As an adult, most call me Dan. Not named after anybody that I'm aware of. Neither first name of Daniel (that really is my real name, not just a made up board name for here on the DIS ) nor middle name of Joseph, are of anybody that I know of.

Funny side note regarding my late brother, Tom. With his middle name, Eugene, I always knew it came from my dad's first name, Eugene. But in my whole life I never connected that his first name, Thomas, came from my mom's maiden name, Thomas. At his funeral service, one of the people who gave the eulogy part that my sister had written (she knew she would not make it through her eulogy without breaking up too often) mentioned that fact, his first name was my mother's maiden name. I always knew her maiden name, how could I not have ever connected the two.

I don’t mind my first name. There are two different shortened nicknames that can come from it, and I answer to any of the three. It wasn’t a popular name in my generation but became popular about a decade later, which often leads people to think I am younger than I am. I’m not named after anyone. My middle name is okay but I would have preferred a different spelling (there are two widely used ones and I prefer the other).

My mom and most of her siblings went by their middle names. My mom thought she was going by her first name her entire life until we needed a copy of her birth certificate for something. Imagine her surprise when she found out in her seventies that she was going by her middle name too!

My parents wanted me known by my middle name. But they felt that name flowed better as my middle name than as my first name. So, except for legal documents, I do not use my first name, which is a VERY common name. . My middle name is a much less common name, and was my paternal Grandmother's maiden name. I have only met 3 other people with my middle name, and I am aware of two celebrities with that name. I was on a trip the past two weeks and even after 68 years I still kind of do a double take when I am called by my first name. And it certainly helps weed out phone calls from people who don't know me but has confused many teachers in school and work supervisors when they see my real name on paychecks and employee rosters. Of course in TV, a LOT of people on camera do not use their real name. Well, at least they didn't used to. Now it is more common for on air people with unusual names to use them on air.

I like my first name. I’m named after the actress, Janet Leigh who was in a movie my parents saw at the drive-in when my Mom was pregnant with me (not Psycho ). My middle name is my Mom’s name.

My name is Curtis and my mother was part of the Tony Curtis film crew and got a autographed picture...it was either Guy Marx after Zorro or Curtis... which as a child was told was a root of courteous...so I won every citizenship honor in elementary school...than just became another brick in the wall

My parents were hippies and almost named me Dandelion Fluff. The week before I was born my mother’s grandmother who she was really close with passed and they decided to name me after her. I’m not sure I’m a Dandelion Fluff so I think it worked out.

I'm not crazy about my first name but I don't hate it. I'm not named after anyone and have no middle name. According to my Daddy that was so that I would not drop my maiden name if I got married (which I didn't and dropped the married name when I divorced). In most cases, my name is a shortened version of a more formal name. Not in my case, it is just what it is, not short for anything. My grand daughter was named the formal version and they do call her that. According to my parents, they just liked the name but I'm not buying it. When you combine it with my last name there is too much of a coincidence for it to be accidental. These are the parents that by the time they got to the fifth boy were tired of coming up with names so named him Teddie B. Not Theodore, Teddie. No middle name just B (it doesn't even have a period after it). There is a theory amongst us kids that it was short for Teddy Bear but my parents always denied it. My Daddy called him BooBoo Bear. At some point when he was a baby one of the older brother's shortened that to Boo and that was what he went by his entire life, it was even on his marriage certificate. My oldest brother named his first boy Justin Tyme. Tell me we don't come from a family of people who don't think before they name their children.

Quirky yes but still fun to talk about, I bet!

I love my name - Joy - and have encountered only a few other 'Joys' in my whole life. My only issue is the people that automatically say 'Joyce' even when you have just told them! Why??
I was also born the day before my Mom's birthday.
