Tom has been busy since leaving DCL.
Anyone who is a longtime DCL cruiser will remember him as he announced the building of the Dream class.
Richard Branson has named him CEO of Virgin Cruise Lines.
Virgin will be building 2 world class ships for the start up cruise company.

Very interesting!!! Sailed on a same cruise a few times with Tom and enjoyed a nice dinner in Palo with him and some others when he filled in for the Captain. I wish him luck in his endeavor.
Virgin Cruise Lines seems like a natural progression for Branson. I am surprised he doesn't have a train line (or maybe he does!!). He is covering many aspects of transportation (space) and consumer products.

He has three airlines, and if the service on a Virgin cruise is anything like the service on Virgin Atlantic or Virgin America, I think that would be a big draw for lots of people.

While I agree that the service is really good, if VCL nickels and dimes the way the Virgin airlines do, it's going to be a bigger turn off for people than the service will be a turn on. That is one bad habit they need to break.
Nickel and dime? They charge for bags (like almost all airlines do) but I can't think of other things they throw in for a fee that's unusual. Hmm.
BTW it's Sir Richard Branson and he prefers the Sir,
They have.
- Two train lines.
- An airline.
- A media company.
- A holiday company.
- They sell Virgin cruises in the UK but it's a TA selling other cruisline such as DCL.
- A Bank.
- Wines.
- Mobile/cell.
- Spacecraft.
- Radio. ( sold)
- Coke ( closed)
Also owns Necker Island in the Caribbean.
Haha....I am not surprised about the train lines.....the others I had a pretty good idea about!!
And I'll be sure to address him as Sir Richard Branson if I ever meet him in person
I loved our trips from NY to London on Virgin.

Maybe nickel and dime is a bit of a stretch. I guess it's the whole having to purchase a bag of chips or some cookies that kind of bugs me. Like really? I'm flying across the country and you can't even give me a bag of chips unless I pay extra for my ticket?

Not sure someone from a country other than where they knighted him is bound by anything to use the term.Ah. Well...I have yet to get much of anything from United, Alaska, Delta, or Southwest, so... I buy the tapas/snack boxes on Alaska and United, or sometimes the cheese plate, and that's no different than the Virgin model. At least on Virgin I get Red, their entertainment system, instead of rolling the dice to see if my particular plane has a TV.
Delta still provides complimentary snacks. American does not. Frequent flier with Delta here. Work forced me to fly American on one trip this year and I was surprised that they did away with the complimentary snacks.
He does, indeed have a trainline in the UK! I traveled on Virgin Trains from London to Edinburgh this summer, and it was a wonderful experience! Their trains were *much* nicer than the other trains that ran the same route. Their website leaves a lot to be desired, but I think that's a common malady!Very interesting!!! Does he? I saw him give a TV interview in which the issue came up. He laughed, and said that only Americans refer to him as "Sir Richard" in person. I think that in proper usage, the Sir title is used only in print or when introducing someone, but not when speaking to the person directly (unlike a title like Dr, which you might use to address a Dr. Smith directly).
