Perhaps in an ironic twist of fate, the sonograph research will turn out to be true, and baby will end up deaf so Tom will not have to worry about Katie's (oops KATE's) voice influencing baby.

I'm sure that was the reason but I don't think it was up to him to decide that. I had a guy do that to me once and I put my foot down and told him to call me what I told him my name was or I wouldn't answer him.

He's just trying to make her comfortable according to this little news report I found. "Cruise admitted he wants his fiancée to feel as comfortable as possible and he doesn't care how the baby is born.

"Like anything, you want to be as quiet as possible. There have been misinterpretations that the woman can't make any noise, and that's just not true. It's nutty. No, but just calm and quiet. I want Katie to be as comfortable as possible. And whatever she's gonna go through, she's gonna go through. And I'm gonna be there," the actor said."

This part sounds weird: "During a recent interview, Tom Cruise slammed late reports that Katie will deliver their baby "in silence", according with the practices of Scientology, which sustain that one should "maintain silence in the presence of birth to save both the sanity of the mother and the child and safeguard the home to which they will go."
So, I guess we know what Brooke Shields needs to do to avoid getting postpartum depression again - just make sure she delivers in silence.

No, artificial insemination doesn't affect the number of fetuses.
There may be more fetuses if she had in vitro fertilization - where the eggs and sperm are united outside of the body. The fetilized eggs are put back into the woman's body.

affect the number of embryos, however if the woman receives
hormone shots it most definitely can wind up in a mutiple pregnancy.
My friend took her Dr.'s advice and went straight to the hormone shot
(notice that is NOT plural), and she got pregnant immediately
on the first shot, on the first try with AI, with quints!
One died in utero, and she succesfully delivered quads (3 girls, 1 boy).
I helped out the first 2 years, so believe me it really can happen!
And yes, she and her DH really had been diagnosed as infertile,
they'd been trying for years after their firstborn (a son 3 years older).
Firstborn is now 7, the quads are 4.
