DH is traveling tomorrow. He'll be driving from Hartford to Albany. I'm trying to get a general idea of how much he'll need to pay in tolls. I assume they have toll booths that will make change, etc?

Sorry, we don't have many toll roads around here. The nearest one is probably 40-50 miles from here, and it's all done digitally. Not sure how that would work in an rental car.

Thanks for your help!

Hwy 91 to Hwy 90 to Hwy 787 to Hwy 87. thank you in advance!

Where off of 87 is he going? I just ask because there may not be a need to go from I-90 to 787 and then 87. You can get to 87 from 90.

We have no toll roads in CT. They were removed about 20 years ago after a very bad accident. I don't know about NY.

If he's going that route the online toll calculator says it will be $2.20 each way. http://www.nysthruway.gov/tolls/calc/trip.cgi Just make sure he doesn't go through an EZ-pass lane and he'll be fine. There is always at least one toll booth that is manned at each exit (the ez-pass lanes won't have anyone there) and they will have change. Of course, if he has change on him it will go faster.

Thank you for the info! I have passed it along to him.

Note: There are toll booths on I-90 (Springfield to the NY border). However, Exits 1-4 are free, and he'll be getting on at Exit 4, and off at Exit 1. I only mention it because if you tell him $2.20 in NY, it's absolutley correct, but then he'll see those other tollbooths.. YOu get the cardboard ticket when you get on at Exit 4, then hand just the ticket over at the end. Kind of stupid, but there you have it.

It's actually a pretty drive through the Berkshires. And I agree, he should avoid I-787 if he can. I always found it crowded and tricky to navigate (maybe it's just me).

try not to have him be on 787 during rush hour. it's not so bad until then. Going south in the AM is bad, North in the PM
