Hi Guys
How do these work?.
Can you buy one to cover all the tolls, or are the different tolls on separate passes.
Sorry to be a dim wit, but never thought about it before.
Normally just pay, but spent a fortune last year and thought it may be cheaper.
Also got caught on the toll lane last year. Had no idea what this was.
In all the 10 years we have been going to Orlando did not know these existed.
Played hell with the toll fee dept, adamant we had not gone through a booth without paying till someone actually explained what the toll lane was

The ones I have been offered in the past did not prepay, you had to rent the device then it charged your credit card the toll fee so a very expensive way to do it, only advantage was not stopping each toll.
Now I think you can get one that allows as much travel as you want but not sure, hopefully someone will post, we hardly spend anything on tolls, not worth bothering with, maybe $15 last trip.

Just realised, we have booked with dollar, and they only do the unlimited pre pay, will cost $75 for the two weeks, seems rather expensive, dont even know if it covers the toll lanes which caught us ut last time.

Just remembered Tony started a thread recently about Dollar's toll system http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2793687
Too much money for me, never paid more than about $15-20 in tolls.

In 2009 Dollar tricked us into buying the prepass and it so wasn't worth it! It cost us around $70 and we worked out that we would have only spent about $10 on tolls. I'm not sure what you mean by toll lanes, we just went through the Sunpass lanes which you don't have to stop at.

if you're only going to be driving in the orlando area then you don't need it.

You can just pay the tolls at the toll booths that have have a person there.

the problem is if you drive in the miami area, where there aren't any toll booths. Where all tolls are paid automatically.

but in the orlando area, you can pay all the tolls with cash....so no reason for the automatic pay device.

Hi
By toll lane I mean the express lane. We were not even aware they existed. It is a fast lane , nothing to do with toll roads/booths which you have to have a pass to use, or else get a fine if you do unwittingly use it, as we did. The lady I queried it with, said they are not easy to distinguish and only the traffic moving out of the lane would be a good guess that you're on one, although obviously there is some signage. We got caught round Crystal river area, and if you are looking for landmarks it is easy to miss the signage.
Still think the prepay with dollar is too expensive though at $75 for 14 days.
Cheers

First time driving for us so not up to speed with tolls!

We are driving from Tampa to WDW, driving around Orlando and then to Port Canaveral. After cruise we will drive from PC to Tampa.

Are we likely to only be going through normal toll booths on our journey (handing money over to someone)? Where will we find them and how much do they cost?

Thanks.

ps. Sorry luckylass for hijacking your thread, not sure my questions justified starting a new one!

From Tampa to Orlando you won't go thru any but you will going to the Port if you use the main route SR528 Beeline Expressway http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florida_State_Road_528
You go thru 3 tolls (and same coming back) although they are in the process of constructing another, no idea when it will be complete. Tolls vary between 75cents and $1.50 each.
Hi Wayne - am intrigued which route you use to get to the Space Coast

We usually use the route above but coming back if traffic is bad we have used SR50 E Colonial Drive via the town of Christmas.

see Wayne's answer regarding tampa/port canaveral...

we use the beeline (528) to get to the airport and also to get to the port..

it's very obvious when you get to the toll booth..
there will be signs in advance of the toll, telling you to get into the right lane if you want to pay using cash (as opposed to the easy pass/sunshine pass or whatever it's calle)..

you'll actually think you're sort of exiting, as the right lane seems to take you off the road - there will be about 4 toll booths there (go to the one that has a green light on that says 'cash/receipts)...

you pay them about $1.00, or $0.75, or $1.50, depending on which one it is.... you don't need exact change...when i was there in august i gave them $5 at the first one we hit after leaving the airport....then i had the right amount from that for the next toll...they'll give you change...

it's really not a big deal...there are big signs telling you which lane to be in..
