Decided to dine in our first night thanks to Garden Grocer (and their ability to deliver wine lol) so getting rid of the res we didn't want and adding one of these (assuming of course we can get it).

which would you pick, and why?

TIA!

I love Tokyo Dining. The menu is pretty diverse for the family- their sushi is actually pretty good and fresh. I like it because it isn't a huge heavy meal for the family and they are really good with my kids. I have not eaten at the hibachi side since they re did it but it never was a huge favorite of mine. I think it is overpriced- we can do it where we live and I don't enjoy sharing the table with other people especially when kids factor in. Either my own which might turn off the other people- or the last time where we had an awful situation where the kid just screamed the whole time.

I was just at Teppan in December and I thought the food was fine. It just wasn't as friendly as I remembered and a little rushed.

Tokyo Dining is one of my new favorites. If you like sushi, my husband (a sushi snob) says theirs is pretty good. Even for me, a vegetarian, there is a lot of good stuff. We prefer it at lunch to dinner.

If I had to choose between the two, I'd rather go to Tokyo Dining. We have lots of Teppan Edo-type places where I live, and I've never been a big fan of it.

My children and I ate there in FEb 08 and they enjoyed it so much we had to eat there again in October. I'm never eaten at the other place.

Happy planning!!!!

I loved Tokyo Dining, the service was fantastic and both the sushi and tempura were really good.

I really want to do Tokyo but DH is a huge fan of the Teppan style and we haven't taken the kids to it before (not much close by us and it's pricey) so he's pushing for that. Of course the fact that HE is not a sushi fan I'm sure has a lot to do with it!

Tokyo Dining -- Teppan is where you go if you don't want to talk to the people you're with. It's all about banging and clanging and making a lot of flash to cook what is ultimately mediocre food.
Tokyo Dining has a varied menu, and the sushi is very good.

I would tend to agree, I guess the question is, will the bang and clang impress the kids more than the better food lol. DH is thinking they will "love" the show. Sadly, I'm the only true sushi eater of the 6 of us.

We are on the DDP so the potentially overpriced (I'm sure it is) is somewhat irrelevant. All we have where we live is Benihana and I don't see us ever taking the kids there so DH sees it as the opportunity to do it. We are at Epcot for dinner though 2 days prior so I might point out both locations to the group and if they want to try and trade then, we can but in the meantime I will make ADR's to be safe.

Thanks!

I thought my kids would be entertained by the show. But it ended up they were afraid of the hot grill! I think the hostess mentioned about getting burned on the hot grill and it scared them. And they weren't little either (maybe 11 & 8). They also didn't like some flavoring that was on the meat. I don't know what it was because I didn't notice any. But they did. And they normally like the Japanese food at Yakitori House and Tokyo dining (we went when it had the other name, but I can't remember it), so its not that they don't like Japanese.

The girls did like the onion volcano though. And the chopsticks that they rubberband together.

Tokyo dining was an absolute pleasure! It is very tradtional Japanese...that is to say, the waitstaff bow and thank you at every turn, the food is presented very beautifully and simply. It is an amazing lesson in good manners! The view of the Lagoon is wonderful as well. The only thing of putting was that our accompanying vegetables with cooked salmon and steak was baby carrot, mashed potato, and a stalk of asparagus (sp?) : I'd like to see a seaweed salad or something more in keeping with the cuisine of Japan...mashed tarro root anyone?

That said, Teppan Edo (which I have not eaten at) was packed to capacity, so which ever you choose, make your ADR ASAP!
