toddlers forbidden in pools

Just got off the Magic 10/18 eastern. The Mickey pool does have new "ears". The one ear just has a recirculating water fountain. Actually lots of them. The kids looked like they were having a good time. If I recall correctly, the other ear still had water filling it at least part of the way.

Correct the Mickey pool has changed.
The pitures in the Mary JO report are correct.

The water in this one ear is said to go through multiple filters and be the cleanest on the ship. Water basically drains all the time.

The ear is for NON POTTY TRAINED Kids ONLY. and they did enforce. Pretty cool thing for Disney to change. Pools were very clean. (I think this does help the situation)

Another thing to note is the deck has been totally changed around the mickey pool. (inside) Rubberized with traction. Very nice and lots less slippy. The CM told of numerous stories of how kids shattered their skulls and put teeth through their lips ! Ouch. It still have some slipper areas where the coating was smoothed out. but overall very nice.

And of course kids were jumping into the goofy pool! It's a pain that people cannot read. I just let em have it.

On our Sept. cruise, the no diaper rule was strictly enforced to the point of several shouting matches between parents and CM's. Two separate parents had the audacity to take their toddler's diapers off and tell the CM's "Look she's potty trained now". The next day of course she has an accident in Mickey's ear (the one without the jets) and my daughter happened to be in the ear. That night we end up in medical with a fever. Some people just don't know how to follow the rules.

My two 2 year olds were not allowed in the other part of the ear. It was disappointing as they love to swim, but I do understand as the health hazards it can cause. It is stricly enforced and you will be asked to leave. Also, I noticed one dad had his daughter, who was in swim diapers, in the wrong ear of the pool. He was told that since she wasn't potty trained she could only be in the other ear. Well, he took her swim diaper off and put her back in the pool. The CM then went on to explain that if she did have an accident the pool would be closed for at least 2 hours. Some people!

We tried the toddler ear with our DS (almost 3 at the time,) but he just didn't like it (very crowded, lots of rowdy, unsupervised kids everywhere,) so we avoided the pools the rest of the cruise. (This was in July, however. May be better off-season.) We didn't find this to be a problem because there are so many other things to keep the kids occupied on the ship. You can bring your toddler into the Oceaneers' Club to play, as long as you stay with him/her. Both of our kids had a great time in the water on the beach.

Also, on our cruise, the Goofy pool had to be shut down for several hours, drained and cleaned, because of contamination.
