Toddler that gets car sick..

At the time of our cruise my daughter will have just turned 2. Recently over the past few months (after we booked) she has started getting car sick for most drives over 20 minutes, unless she is sleeping.

Does anyone have a child who gets car sick but is ok on the cruise ship? I do notice that she gets sick in the car because she tends to look out the window. I'm hoping keeping her away from windows will help.

Anyone have any tips?

I would talk to her pediatrician on what she could have. Mine recommended Benadryl.

Thank you! I talked to the ped at her 1.5 year check up and she recommended children's Dramamine, but I've read that knocks some kids out. I will have it handy though just in case.

I'm hoping this is the case for us too. I *think* it may be a sight thing for her so as long as we keep her away from outside while moving.

Usually being able to see out is what helps lessen motion sickness. I've always heard that motion sickness is aggravated when your body senses motion but your eyes do not. That's why some people get motion sick when reading in a car but not when sitting and looking out the window. And fresh air helps as well. I have a dog that used to get car sick and I will crack the window so she can put her nose out the window. That stopped her from getting sick.

I know it's very strange. But it seems like her eyes are trying to focus on what is going by outside the window. We have had some luck covering the window.

I also have a daughter (age 3) that will just be turning 5 a couple days before our first cruise in 2016 that gets sick in vehicles (even on field trips with preschool on a bus) and so far we've had luck with the kiddo sized sea bands I slip on her wrists every morning. I'm going to bring whatever I can just in case she gets motion sickness on the boat too but hoping its just in vehicles.

Our son tends has gotten carsick on occasion. It's horrible because he's in a carseat/booster and HAS to ride in the backseat. His is very minor, but we had NO problems on the cruise. I took children's Dramamine just in case, but never needed it. I'll be taking it again since we're going to the Bahamas and those seas tend to be rougher than the Caribbean (we were in Mexico, Belize and Honduras).

So glad you asked! My daughter gets motion sickness very easily - even in the movie theater...poor kiddo!

We just got back from a 4 day Disney Cruise. I had every remedy available with me. She took one Children's Dramamine - as we were in the port waiting to board. She was completely fine the entire cruise!!!! Never felt sick at all. They do serve green apples with most of the kids meals - they help with any queasy feeling.

On a side note, I used the Scopolamine patch - HUGE mistake. It is SUPER STRONG and the side effects are way worse than getting seasick (which I have been many times). It is a week and a half since our cruise ended and today may be the first day that I don't feel exhausted and dizzy. I had terrible blurry vision during our cruise (could not read the menu, see through the view finder on my camera, etc...) - I also had very dry mouth/sore throat - slurred my words for the first few hours of applying the patch. I wish I had used just an over the counter med...

Our son gets car sick as well and I was super worried for our first cruise. I brought many different things to be prepared and we didn't need any of them but I was definitely glad I brought them. I still bring them, but he hasn't had any problems on the ship; however, we do not take the DCL bus transportation because of his issue.

Why don't you try it out on her before the cruise to see how it affects her?
