Toddler Harness

I recently had surgery which left me unable to pick up my DS 20 months for about two weeks. He HATES having his hand held-- can't force him to without hurting him-- and he is a runner! He is a wonderful boy, but very adventurous, and tough as nails. Doesn't understand about "boo-boos," or busy parking lots, etc... I bought the harness w/ monkey on it from Wal-mart, and it was a life saver. It gave him a sense of freedom, and me some sanity! If you would ever have told me that I would be a harness user (DS7 was an absolute first-time mom's dream), I would've told you you were crazy! But here I am w/ son # 2, and things are so different!

I am looking forward to using it at WDW in Sept, and I know he will love not being strapped in his stroller the entire time.

I just ordered the dog one for my almost two year old son for our trip in August. I NEVER thought I would consider using a harness for my child. But then again, we've never been to Disney World! The fact that it looks like a cute backpack and doubles as such (it has a zipper pocket) makes me feel better. =)

Are you SURE you are not the proud mother of my 2 boys??? SAME exact ages and personalities!!!! You took the words right out of my mouth! (exept I bought mine at Target as I posted ealier! :lmao: )

My 2 yr old LOVES it....I have been walking around the neighborhood with him the last few days so that he can get used to it! He thinks it is wonderful and puts a little ball and dinosaur in the back pack! LOL

I agree with your husband. I HATE those leashes. And I have children and have taken them to a lot of crowded places including Disney when they were toddlers.
You will never convince me to like them so tell your husband I'm on his side!(oops you will probably delete this post before showing him) Use them if you want but don't tell me I can't look at you like you are walking your dog.

I am wondering though instead of spending time getting them used to the leashes why not spend time getting them used to staying next to you?

Well, you are a pretty memorable poster and I think I recall you let your tv on in your home even if no one is watching... right? Also, you have older children.

My point - we all parent differently and have different needs.

I don't think the advice of teaching a child to stay with you works for everyone, too. I have 3 older children who were that way when they were toddlers, but when my 2.5yo came around - zoom! lol Every child is different.

Be safe, y'all! :wizard:

We have the puppy one pictured in post #16. We bought it for $10 at Wal-Mart last year. Used it at WDW and we still use it at home too. Our DS (2) LOVES IT! He even likes to wear it around the house. He'll bring you his "puppy" to put on him. And he just looks so darn cute in it too!

We didn't see any weird looks or hear any comments. I think most people with kids totally understand why you would need one.
