On August 6, 1890, convicted murderer William Kemmler became the first person to be executed in the electric chair as he was put to death at Auburn State Prison in New York. -- sorry, EROS . . .

On August 6, 1926, Gertrude Ederle of New York became the first American woman to swim the English Channel.

On August 6, 1945, the United States dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan, killing an estimated 140,000 people in the first use of a nuclear weapon in warfare.

On August 6, 1997, British Prime Minister Tony Blair shook hands with Sinn Fein president Gerry Adams in the first meeting in 76 years between a British leader and the IRA's allies.

Oh Boy, let's not get EROS going on that again. I stayed out of it the last time. :(

Unforunately I'm too young to remember any enxept the last one.:p

Thanks, DEB:) ........

I know that the HEH crowd misses the "good old days" of electrocutions:( :( :( :( . In prisons, the chair was referred to as, "Old Sparky":( :( :( ........

Groosch Eros...I'm nert entirely sure if yer read that 100,000 times...yer'd "fit in"...unless of course yer decisied nert to be sooooo argumentative in yer posts!....and I think we all know how "likely" that is!

btw...out of interest...what's yer "record" in post'in on threads that got locked up in any one 24 hour period???

Are yer happy about that?? why is it yer think yer need to "make people think"...when yer know...yer in the wrong place fer that....and...btw....yer never got the chance ter answer my question as to why yer dernt post yer stuff on the debate board???

You may be on to something there:):):). Most people around here may not be tooooooooooooooo interested in "thinking":p:p:p. As for the Debate Board, I find it to be a cold and heartless place. I much prefer the CB due to the OVERWHELMING compassion of its members. You see, GOOFY, I'm a VERY sensitive soul :D:D:D.....

Actually, I'm GLAD when my threads become locked; seeing that little grey icon tells me that I'm doing something RIGHT;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) .........

While we're on ter sump'in...yer never did answer yer friend Deb's question as ter wheather or nert Mrs. E would allow yer ter take yer own child ter Hooter's fer their birthday??...why did yer ingore her????

I'll have to consult with MRS. EROS tonight on that one;) . I'm still at the office. She's the boss........I'm just her humble servant:cool:   .......

HOLY SMOKES!!!

I believe this sets a record for the most replies EVER on a lowly little History post . . . it even makes it to Page 2!!

(even though it was a MAJOR hijacking that got it there . . .  )
