To use Pull Ups or not to use Pull Ups?

DS was 2yr. 10mo and in the process of being potty trained when we went. Even though we chose pull ups, he progressed in his potty habits during that time. We took a break as a family and he got in the habit of going when we went and he was dry. Of course it was more difficult on the plane and night time, but the fact we put on a pull up didn't make him stop his progress. I actually just slipped the pull up on casually and underwear over it and he didn't even ask a question. I didn't make a big deal of it either way.

No matter which meathod a family chooses - the end goal is the same have a fun family trip and eventually have a fully potty trained child. Some children will go back adn forth no problem or regression - others once they are in underpants that is it - no going back.

Either way happy travels :goodvibes

If you are going in January and she will have been pt for 6 mos, I would not worry. Take frequently potty breaks. If you are going to a long line, go potty first. We went last Jan and my ds was pt but not consistently telling me when he needed to go. I put him in pull ups for the first few days. For some reason the heat and the pull ups gave him a horrible rash so we ditched the pull ups. He did perfectly fine without them. He never peed in them when he had them on anyways. I think closer to your trip you will have a much better idea of how she will do. IMO if a child is pt for 6 mos (assuming we are talking about a 3+ year old child) the pull ups are likley not necessary.

Pullups are designed to help kids sense when they are wet. They do not keep children dry! So when they sweat in pullups the wetness is retained right next to their precious little bottoms causing a terrible rash! When my youngest was transitioning to big girl panties, she still napped and slept at night in diapers just for this reason. Another thing to realise is that even in January you can sweat in Southern Florida...less bathroom breaks and certainly less urgency! My child is still bad about waiting until it's almost too late to tell me she needs to go and that was a big concern for us. But it was never an issue...but we went in September so that was a lot different situation.
