To the %(#)@ soul who continued to use flash photography

It's a Small World isn't a dark ride, but having a flash go off (and this was a huge telephoto professional type camera) go off repeatedly within armslength of your eyes kind of takes you out of the moment.

Fortunately, IASW isn't exactly precious to me :)

IT is precious to me and the people in FRONT of me wanted to take pictures of what they passed so I imagine when they got home and saw lots of pictures of me squinting, flinching and grimacing it might just have ruined their IASW pictures. The flash kept going off in my eyes. I think actually about halfway through the ride they realized they were blinding me. How Rude! I guess I know how the poor famous people feel about the papparazis

...but DVCajun - I love the bracelet in your signature! ;) Where did you find it??

Thanks for the compliment! :)

It's one I made from antique typewriter keys. I actually sold that particular one, but I'm making myself one almost exactly like it. I like the sentiment, and can see that you do too!! :teeth:

Okay, I'm guilty :guilty:
Back when I was sure that Carousel of Progress was going to be shut down for good, and even though the CMs do announce "no photography or videotaping", I wanted to save as much as I could - after all, I'd first seen this attraction over forty (now) years ago...
Well, my 35mm camera is good but not great. It resets itself to "flash" after every shot. I did my absolute best to make sure to set it to 'no flash' before each photo,,, but naturally, in the dark, I missed the setting once... well, the CM's voice came over the loudspeaker, reminding me of the rules...
You'll all be pleased to know - none of those pictures came out :teeth: And I DID apologize to the other Guests once the lights came on.

Another time - I didn't take this one - I was talking to a young couple in line not long after "Millionaire" opened. Well, that's the show where I finally made it into the Hot Seat! I hadn't been sitting with these people, but despite the pre-show advisory, the wife stood up and snapped my picture! Of course, the "no photography" announcement was made again, but they waited for me after the show and got my address - so I have an illicit photo of me playing Millionaire :)

Of course, the "no photography" announcement was made again, but they waited for me after the show and got my address ...

I don't understand-- why did they want your address?

Wow - I love this place. I posted something similar on another board and was inundated with "it doesn't hurt anyone, it adds to my enjoyment to be able to take these memories home, etc". I can't believe that people are nice enough to say "wow - I didn't know - I am sorry" - cool!

:wizard:

I find it very hard to "ignore" flash photography and to "not let it ruin my disney experience". It's annoying and distracting.

Just once i'd love to see someone grab a flashers camera and throw it overboard.... That'd solve the problem!

Oh, and what's with all the flashes going off during fantasmic? Do people think this is going to get them a great picture?

I was at a national level figure skating competition (watching, not participating, LOL!) where flash photography is very dangerous to the skaters.

After two polite warnings, the announcer came on again and said something like 'Once again, we must ask you to not take flash photos. To those sitting near people using a flash, please take their cameras away from them' Honestly, he instructed us to take matters into our own hands! Of course, we all laughed, but the flashes stopped, for the most part.

Between the flash photos, the cell phones ringing, and people having conversations on rides about where to eat lunch  I find myself hoping that the magic isn't spoiled for my kids each trip too!

This thread reminds me of the time we ate at Biergarten last year. We sat with two nice couples from Michigan. Once the band started playing, they took pictures, and our son who was 6 at the time turned to them and said, "No flash photographies, please!" All the grown-ups cracked up, but DS was quite serious.

Ok I haven't read this entire thread but this same thing just happened on our trip (it actually happens all the time). Someone behind us was taking photos and suddenly a cm cut in and asked/reminded please no flash photography. The flashes kept coming as if to say, "I'm getting my pictures (regardless for anyone else), what are you going to do about it."

My curiosity got the best of me as I too was wondering if they would do anything so I lingered at the end of the ride pretending my shoe needed tying and when the offending boat unloaded nary a word was spoken?

So if they have this rule and it is distracting to others then why do they even bother if they are not going to follow up? Like I said this fellow must have taken a dozen or so pics all along the ride and the cm on the speaker did NOTHING to deter him.

I didn't see a problem on POC, but last week when we saw the "Festival of the Lion King" in AK, there were several people who took pictures using the flash after they were explicitly told not to use video cameras or flash photography. Not only was it annoying, but I felt bad for the performers. Something could have happened to them if they were distracted by the flash. It is a great show, but there are several acrobats and even a fire thrower/fire eater and something could have happened to them if they were distracted by the flash. People do not listen and I saw video cameras and flash photography on several of the rides.

Just there last week and i must admit that we took photos of our DD (9months) her first time on IASW and she was just loving it. We asked before we got on the ride and they told us it was fine. We didn't take any photos on the dark rides.

OH MY!!! Are we guilty at our house! I've have been to WDW 2x this year & took flash photos many times -yes on Small world & many many on buzz as well as my MIL who was with us.
Never ONCE have either of us heard no flash photos on a ride (of course I heard it in Mermaid)
WOW when I go in Nov my ears will be perked up extra to listen for those rules.

SORRY for those of you we blinded!

AND YES my mil even blinded you @ midnight on the bus on the way back to the hotel---I even fussed at that one!

Not all rides say no flash photography. I know Small World does but Snow White doesn't. Don't know why there is a difference or what prompts the rules.

I did take pictures on Small World once, we were there late, in the very last boat and the only riders we could see. I tried taking pics without flash and they didn't do well then thought since I certainly won't bother anyone this time I used the flash. Still felt funny about doing it but I have a few nice pictures so can't say I wouldn't do it again in those circumstances. No speaker announcement or I'd have stopped.

Are you sure you didn't misunderstand, or maybe it was before we went? While we could not take flash pictures of any other painting, we could of the Mona Lisa (1998) because they put her inside a special glass (may have been plastic, I didn't touch it) box that allows for pictures without distroying the painting. There was a man next to her, explaining why we could take pictures. He had to keep telling people it was ok. I took several. He said so many took pictures many years ago against the rules, they came up with a special case for her, and pictures could now be taken.

I remember the first time I went to the Louvre to see the Mona Lisa painting...they actually had an employee seated next to the portrait who could tell you "no foto" in any language.

My issue with the people on IASW taking pictures was not that they were taking pictures but that they kept turning around and pointing their camera in my direction and blinding me. I could have cared less if they took pictures in front of them, I wouldn't have even noticed.
