I'm really looking forward to seeing the threads that say, AKL refugee moved to (fill in resort name here)....And, here is what I thought about (resort).

Especially the DVC locations like SSR.

Has anyone seen posts yet of people coming back? (may be a little soon, I'm not sure). If there are threads, could you send me the link?

Hi Mary,

I have not posted a new thread, but we just got back from our Refugee trip. We were moved to the Yacht Club and I have to say that we could not have been happier with the resort. The pool was amazing and with the heat the kid's spent a ton of time there. EVERYONE working at the resort went out of their way to be helpful - the service was outstanding!! My husband became ill at the end of the week and we spent most of one day at the hospital. My kid's are a little older so they were able to stay at the resort and they had a great time just swimming, playing in the arcade and enjoying Beaches & Cream. I do not know if they would have had as much to do at AKL - so it may have worked out better that we were at YC. Also, I was afraid that we may have to stay over if my DH was admitted to the hospital so I checked with the front desk to see if we could stay in our room - the hotel was booked solid, but they made arrangements to hold a room at the BC villas if we needed it. I was so impressed with everyone working at the resort - we will definitely stay there again!

On a side note, the Celebration Hospital is great. You almost feel like you are still at Disney. They treated us really well, and the Xray and cat scan rooms are decorated in various beach themes.

I did cancel our ADR's for BOMA and Jiko because I just couldn't stand the thought of going to the AKL and falling in love with it. But maybe we will get there next time!

Julie

Hi Julie
Hope your husband is feeling better! I'm so glad to hear it worked out for you at YC! We were thinking of spending our last night at AKL (just me & DH this trip - kids are just not into it anymore!) We were going to spend the whole day at the resort, but changed our minds because of the construction. I did make a res for Boma so we could still check it out, and I hope it doesn't make me wish I was staying there too badly!

Glad to hear that you still had a magical time!
-mary (cool !! you're from Ohio too!)

Just returned last week from our first trip to Disney. We were also moved from AKL to SSR and was worried after reading so many posts. We loved it there! Staff was great, room was beautiful and immaculate, buses were quick! It was also great having a washer/dryer in our room. I can't figure out why so many people are against SSR. It only takes 10 minutes to get to each park from there. No, its not "Disney" feel, but you spend plenty of time at the parks for that. We would stay there again anytime!

Sorry about yoy husband- I hope he is okay. My sister spent 2 days at Celebration 2 years ago and it really was a great hospital.

On some posts, people were told they would get some special things in their room (because of the bump from AKL)- did you get anything special?

Sorry - I guess I should have finished the story. My DH is OK - he was having severe pain and when we went to the hospital they were sure that it was his gull bladder, but the ultrasound came back normal. They then did an XRay and Cat Scan; all normal. The pain subsided, but he is still not 100%. He is going to go to our MD - but of course he hasn't made it there yet!!

Mary - we are in NE Ohio also - in the Akron area.

Hi form Twinsburg Ohio!

I am a refugee too but I have not yet gone on our trip. Will have a report from the Poly in less then a month!

Glad everyone so far has been happy with their deportation.:rotfl:

Julie, Glad your DH is feeling better, hopefully your MD will give him an A-OK!
Cheryl, sounds like you are really looking forward to your trip, here's to a magical time, pixiedust:
I'll look for your review when you are back!

I posted this on another thread but it seems more appropriate here:

Well, we finally got the call and I was a bit relieved but very unhappy with the process. Our dates are from 8/26 through 9/3 and we WERE staying at the AKL standard view room w/free dining.
The 1st CM that I spoke with explained to me that the noise and dust, due to construction, will be very distracting to the guests and that the heavy equipment has impacted the animals roaming patterns. I was offered the option of staying at AKL, moving to a SS 1bedroom for $120 a night or moving to any resort of my choice that had availability for my room type. Of course Disney would pick up the tab for any additional incurred costs.
I did not want to make a decision at that point as I wanted to discuss this with my DW.
After a long discussion with my DW (5 minutes)...We decided to go with SS since we would be getting money back :cool1:
I called back and the 2nd CM informed me that I was mislead...I could get the SS for $120 a night but I would not get the free dining due to a restriction in their system that would not allow them to double up on discounts. After doing some quick calculations we determined that there was no cost savings after all
I quickly went through all of the Luxury resort availabilities with the CM and settled on the Wilderness Lodge Wood View room with Bunk. My first choice was the Polynesian but it was booked (for my room type). I expressed my concern about the miscommunication with the first CM and also expressed that I was not happy with this situation at all. The CM at this point became rude and proceeded to lecture me on how lucky I was the Disney was offering anything at all. At this point I realized that my efforts were going nowhere…I let the CM know that I did not appreciate the lecture and that I hope she has a Disney Day.
Now...I know that my family and I will have a GREAT time, after all we will be in Disney. BUT, somehow this just does not sit right with me. I typically stay in moderate level resorts and this is going to be the first time that we actually splurge to stay in a Luxury Resort. There was no hesitation when we made the choice to go luxury that it would be AKL. My Kids would have loved it!
Given the size of my family, I will probably be staying at the value resorts from this point forward, which means that the AKL will not be an option in the future. I know that technically I received a room and resort upgrade but in my mind I did not. AKL is where I would like to have stayed given ideal circumstances. This is something that Disney does not understand. I asked if I could get a price guarantee for a future trip to the AKL but was refused.
Yes, I could have refused the re-location but I did not want to chance the possibility of being re-located when we got there or even worse being disappointed due to the construction.
I am a little worn down at this point and I do not plan on persuing this any further. Wilderness Lodge....HERE WE COME :woohoo:
Although...my DW is not happy at all and she may decide to give them a call herself. I don't want to be the CM on the end of that call :rotfl2:

Happy but Disappointed

Just a bump! Anyone else back from their new resort after being moved from AKL?
-mary

I am glad your husband is okay, Julie.

I hope everyone who has been moved from The Animal Kingdom Lodge has a great trip to Walt Disney World!!!! :wizard: :grouphug: :wizard: :grouphug:

hmmm...
I wonder what would happen if I got moved. We're at AKL 9-22 to 9-29 and I got the 40% off code when I booked. If they move me, do I lose the code? Do I not get my 40% off.. How is that going to work!

Just curious, how are so many people getting free dining? I want in on that deal!!:flower3:

The free dining promotion ended back in June. If you haven't already booked it, you're out of luck.

BTW, it has nothing to do with the moving of guests from AKL. It was available for anyone to book.

I am a refugee who was moved to the Grand Floridian. We went two weeks ago. We LOVED the GF!!!!! The location was fantastic... the monorail was extremely convenient (especially with two toddlers). Needless to say, we probably will skip AKL next time and stay at Poly or CR because of the monorail. We loved being so close to Magic Kingdom and only a few minutes from epcot by monorail. We did a different park each morning and then spent our evenings at MK or EPCOT because of the convenience. The service at GF was great, pools were great, food was great!!! no complaints here.

I called back a few times to check up on the availability of the Poynesian and I finally got lucky. :cool1:
We have been moved to the Polynesion Garden View and we can't wait. I guess everything does work out in the end when it comes to Disney.

BTW: the free dining was offered for the start of the value season. I wouldn't say you are out of luck. I would call on a daily basis to see if anything frees up. If someone cancels their reservation you may get lucky and grab it before someone else does. You may have to be flexible with where you want to stay.
Good Luck

I'm so happy that you were able to get the Poly. WL would have been good too but the Poly is the Poly! Great going for being so persistent.

Neener, neener we will be there first!

Yes, they are out of luck. Even if someone gives up their free dining reservations, they are not booking any new ones. That promotion has ended for new bookings.
