To sell and then purchase a different DVC???

Hello fellow DVCers, Have any of you realized you no longer care for one of the DVC resorts you own at? I am almost facing that predicament. I am thinking of selling those points to purchase at another resort I own at. This would reduce my resorts from 3 to 2. With the increased cost of the purchase resale I would go from 477 points annually to 432 annually.

Has anybody else done this? Do you think it is a completely bad idea?

I would love to hear thoughts pro or against. I won't take insult to perceived negative comments.

Thank you.

It's all in the numbers, your likes, your feeling about renting your un-used points and if you want to simplify your life.

We own 6 resorts and recently sold some AKV contracts.

I take my chances to change at 7 months. I would not be willing to have fewer points than we have now.

We own at two resorts, which we love, but we have two UYs, which was fine at first, but now it just confuses me :confused3 to keep track of the little points that I have in the different years. So, I recently purchased resale points and direct points so that I can sell one UY and simplify my life.

I purchased close to the same amount of points--not less--because I am attached to the number of points :wave2: we have ;). I know that I spent more money, but if I have to think less about the UYs, I think it will be better for me.

If you aren't keen to rent out your points or use the 7 month window with those points, then selling them and buying more where you want to stay is a sensible decision.

From a financial standpoint it almost never makes sense but if you're set on getting into something you can't get routinely, it might be worth considering. Just because you don't like your home resort is not enough justification IMO. Realize that there is a significant cost in doing so represented by the sales commission and any additional costs. This is sunk costs It's almost always better to do an add on rather than sell and rebuy OR simply to try to make what you have work. The only exceptions I can think of that make sense financially are where one is downsizing significantly either in number of points or demand of the resort and possibly to go from a higher fee resort like VB depending on the specific numbers. I have done a couple of direct exchanges but they are tricky and almost always one side has a different via of value than the other. Ultimately it comes down to specifics and personal preferences but rarely is it a good idea financially.

I should also add that even though I bought more points in one UY so that I could sell my other UY, I won't be terribly disappointed if I don't sell the other UY contracts, or if the sales get delayed because I am too busy ;). I am fond of all of my points and can easily find ways to use them. I tend to be in borrowing mode and end up renting out points from others when I am short on points.

Dean has an excellent point. Just add on! Maybe if you add-on first, you can eventually sell the resort you are least fond of. Who knows, maybe it will grow on you and you will be glad you kept it.

Yes, I have done it and am currently in the process of selling some to get some VGF. We stayed there and I fell love. As many know. BLT has always been it but after a taste of the grand, I want to own there...not to mention the difficulty of getting in which I don't want to gamble.

Now, it could mean that temporarily I'll have about 40 less points to compensate for the difference in cost, but I'll be getting 2013 Dec UY points which were used on the contract I'd be getting rid of so in that sense, it'll even out for my 2015 trips.

Financially, it's probably not the best move, but it will work within my budget and will allow my husband and I to have points that will work for us booking and staying in the places we really like!!

I agree with what you say about VGF! DH & I stayed there and fell in love, too! I took pictures of the chandeliers and when I see the pictures, I smile. We stayed there through a wait list that came through, but do have enough points for a night or two every December. IF I ever get more points, it will be there. Enjoy your purchase!

I cut 1/2 of my points from saratoga to bay lake because we love bay lake. :)
