I am about to make my first ressie's to go home (YEA!) and I have some questions about whether or not to make a special room request. I have read quite a few posts where people make very specific room requests and then don't get what they want and are very dissapointed. Then again there are some people that don't make any requests and get great rooms.

So which is it? Do you make a request or not? Being that this will be my first trip home to a new resort (SSR) I think I could care less where I end up at.

Also, does anyone think that there is someting to not making a request? Kinda like good Karma, if you don't ask and get very specific they will be nicer and give you something good?

Just a thought.

We always request non-smoking!

Anything beyond that doesn't matter.

I made reservations for VB on Friday. I requested NS, direct ocean view, non-handicap-need the tub for the kids to take a bath.

Our VWL requests last year were NS, non handicap.

I would say our requests are usually met.

We requested Boardwalk view (back before this was confirmed), Non-Smoking.

They changed the system before we traveled and our view was moved to a confirmed view, so we got that.

But we were in a smoking room. Not that we noticed until we noticed the lack of a non-smoking symbol on the outside of the door three days into our trip. A smoking room where you don't notice is the same (to us) as a non-smoking room.

I usually request a certain view and floor when I make my ressie. If it is not available, I just take whatever they give me.

I figure it can't hurt to put in the request, but I check in fully expecting not to get my request. Maybe someday I will be happily suprised, but it is not a big deal for me.

The most I have ever requested was to be near South Point in a nonsmoking unit, and once those requests plus to be near our friends. We have ALWAYS gotten our requests, but then we aren't requesting anything terribly specific. THe last few times, I have only requested non-smoking. Can't go wrong there! We have never had a unit we didn't think was acceptible.

We have always had our non-smoking request filled by WDW. We hope that continues with DVC. I am pretty sure that it will be when you consider the sure # of ns rooms available.

Our requests are always non-smoking and upper floor and we've always had those requests met.

If you start adding more requirements to your requests- make sure they are in your order of preference- since that's usually the order they try to meet requests. The simpler the request- the more likelyhood for success.

Enjoy!

Our requests are simple. Non smoking and NOT a HC room. If we have more than one unit, we ask they be close but that's a rare occurance that we need that request.

I voted that our requests weren't all met, but that does NOT mean we weren't happy! And it doesn't mean they didn't meet the primary request (which is NS). I still feel that NS should be a room designation, not a request, but THAT's another thread...

In any case, We have yet to receive a room we were unhappy with. We always request NS, and that has always been met, but every time we asked for "near Hospitality House" at OKW... and every time we got Turtle Pond! I feel certain now that if we ask for Turtle Pond, we shall at long last be placed squarely by the HHouse! And at VWL, I admit it -- they answered every single request to the letter: NS, upper floor, pool view. Perfect.

For our BWV stay, it's a std 2br, and I think the only things on our request are NS med reasons, No HC, and upper floor. If we're far down the hall, great -- we'll stand a better chance of fireworks. If we're close to the elevator, hey, that's cool too, spare the legs.

I don't know about the karma theory (don't ask and ye shall receive); I'd be more inclined to say that those who are very brief in their requests are also much mellower go-with-flow folks who can make even a bad position seem good ("...and we saw the CUTEST raccoons outside our windows, perched on those big green dumpsters! Wow!")

Our single request is non-smoking

We do not have to worry about the HA versus non-HA since we always (so far) get a 1BR or bigger so we always have a tub for the kids

thanks

Usually my single request is non-smoking. It was met every time but once, and it was out option to take the smoking room and check-in early rather than wait.

If we take others along, and have more than 1 room...say 2 studios or 2 - 1 bedrooms I request they be near each other (OKW) this request has also always been met.

At check-in, I ask if our assigned room will be anywhere except Miller's Road...not that there is anything WRONG with Miller's Road, we just personally don't find the area as convenient as we once did, prior to the new buildings going in. Anyway, sometimes they can locate us elsewhere, sometimes not...it isn't a "make or break" request for us.

Can there be another category in between the first two?

I generally make requests and they are sometimes met. Because my experience is in between "are met" and "not met".

Thank you for all of your responses. I should have worded the poll a bit differently, with a middle ground between "met" and "not met". I guess people don't post when they make requests and everything goes fine, people post the loudest when things go wrong. I can't help but think sometimes that if they hadn't put such restrictions on thier room and hadn't been so highly expectant to receive them, maybe the let down would be less? Does that make sense?

I'm going to ask for non-smoking and non-handicapped but I don't think it will matter where they put us when it comes to view or floor.

Thanks again,
D4D

Depends on your requests - if you request room number 1533, you probably won't get it (although we did once at OKW). We usually get our fist couple requests; have always gotten our first request (non-smoking). Beyond that is wishful thinking, but we have been pleasently surprised a couple times.
