I am trying to decide whether or not to "rent" points for either a studio or a 1-Bdrm to a DVC, or take my chances with a travel agent and go with a deluxe resort - hoping some sort of discount since I am a AAA member and a Disney Visa Card member. If no discount, I am back to a moderate level resort.

Reading the reviews on this site for the DVC, the ratings fluctuate and I noticed some cons concerning noise, distance from elevator, cleanliness, etc that concern me.

If people have, which I assume is many of you, have stayed at deluxe resorts as well as DVC, tell me your opinions.

Thanks in advance!

We have stayed at deluxes before buying DVC, and in my opinion, there is no comparison! A DVC 1 bedroom at ANY of the DVC resorts can't be beat for convenience, size and comfort. If you want a studio, it is more like a deluxe, but with the addition of a refridgerator, microwave, coffee maker, and toaster. Depending on which resort you are staying at, you could have a huge room, and will also have a balcony. I have a really hard time moving down to a deluxe from a DVC. The only time I think a deluxe has an advantage is something like AKL for the experience of the savanna, and even then, it doesn't compare for room size and appointments.

I stayed at BWI on my honeymoon. We arrived at 2 am. I did not know if I'd be able to find my way to the elevator in the morning. We were the last room at the end of the hall. Keep in mind, this was the Inn, not the Villas. I ended up loving the BW though! So, the walk for the Villas is no worse than the regular hotel.

If you're at BWV, BCV, or VWL, you are staying at a deluxe, minus mousekeeping, but with a kitchen or kitchenette. SSR and OKW are the same high quality. SSR has a spa too! Plus, you're getting this at a price closer to a mod. Don't know what more you could want.

Don't let other people's posts influence your decision.

If you read the Resort Board with any regularity at all, you will see each and every resort "bashed" at some time. It seems to go in cycles. Haven't been over there for awhile, so not sure which resort is currently getting lots of negative posts at the moment - but I'm sure there is at least one and that it will be a different one soon. :teeth:

All of the DVC resorts also get "bashed" every so often. You really have to take all the negative posts with a grain a salt. Most of the reported experiences happened, but nothing anywhre is perfect. What some perceive as a negative, others see as a positive. For example - yes, some of the rooms at the BWV are quite a distancd from the elevators. But those rooms are also the quietest (less hallway traffic - kids running & adults talking). We prefer them! FWIW, we travel to Las Vegas and stay in the strip hotels. The BWV hallways are NOTHING compared to some of those hallways, LOL!

Anyway, if you think you might like to stay at a DVC resort - just give it a try! We've never had a bad visit to the BWV and have been multiple times since 1999. I know that there are many others who can say the same about the other DVC resorts.

Best wishes-

Thanks CarolMN! Once I started reading your message, I totally agree. WHy it took someone elseto point it out for it to click in my mind I have no idea. I guess since there is so much information and so many choices between Deluxe and DVC, it is hard to narrow it down. SO I am lookign for negatives to eliminate some of the choices, when in reality, as you say there may be some bad eggs in the litter, but its Disney and where else would I rather be??? Thanks for the suggestion!
