who takes some type of ginger? If you do, what do you take and where do you get it?

When I'm pregnant and need it, I used candied ginger which I buy at Trader Joe's. Tastes good.

I have found actual ginger pills in the health food store , but easier yet, some ginger ale will calm your stomach a bit too.

when I was pregnant I craved ginger snaps - for the nausea as well as the sweet. Killed two birds with one stone!

If you have a Publix in your area, that's where I got mine. You might want to see if a local grocery store with a pharmacy would order it for you. You can also find it in health food stores like tiggergirlinMI said. I recommend getting papaya extract, too. It's great for when you're already nauseous. My parents have a friend who was on chemo and felt sick all the time until he started taking papaya.

So for those who use the ginger pills, do they work well if you take them prior to certain park rides? I have used Dramamine and I don't think it did much good. Thanks for your help!

136 days to go and makin' plans! :smooth:

Ginger is the best natural cure for "dizzy tummy"!! Everyone in my family takes 2 pills with breakfast, then at lunch and if there are to be after dinner riding then 2 at Dinner. I have discovered that taking them with food is best because it eliminates that nasty post ginger burps!!!! I have tries all kindsl, and have found just a generic brand is as good as the more expensive!!!

I second the idea of getting some Ginger Snaps. They are the best if you can find ones without alot of additives. Not too sugary, enough of sweetness to keep you going while it works on tummy problems. Try them! Ely

My boss (the one who clued me in to the wonders of ginger) suggested starting to take it in the morning and at night for about a week before you go so that it can build up in your system. If you take it right before a ride, it probably won't have time to kick in and help. We continued taking them in the morning and at night throughout our trip.

Candied Ginger is really good but can be a bit too spicy for some people. The best thing I have found is Coke Syrup. Not a coca cola but the straight syrup that you use to make it. It can be found in soda fountain supply stores or drug stores where it use to be carried as a matter of habit. It goes under the generic name "Cola Syrup". Ask the pharmacist. They can order it and it is not expensive. It is excellent for morning sickness and for little kids because it tastes like Coke (cause it is only without the fizzy).

When I was pregnant I would make FRESH ginger tea. You can buy fresh ginger root from the grocery store. Put it in a sauce pan with some water and boil. Use about 1 tbsp of it. Add a teabag - keep boiling for 5 minutes and then strain the ginger out of it. Pour in a cup and add milk/sugar.
I also loved ginger cookies!

I have extreme motion sickness and dramamine is the only thing that works for me! I think the natural remedies are best for mild cases. If you took dramamine according to the directions and STILL got sick I would be very scared to rely on ginger. That being said, each person is different. And if you didn't get really sick I guess you can try whatever. I get sick in cars, boats, planes, swings, ect. That's why I like WDW, there is so much I CAN do!

We bring ginger flavored chewing gum with us and just chew it on the rides we suspect will bother us. The first time I had to order it on line but last summer CVS drug store was carrying it. It was with other motion sickness remedies.

Mythbusters on Discovery Channel had an episode on this not too long ago. They tried the pressure bracelet, dramamine, and ginger...ginger was the only thing that worked on both of the guys that endured the experiment.

i've used the ginger snaps cookies, the crystallized ginger and ginger flavored altoids - all help somewhat - maybe it's just mind over matter, maybe the spicy biting taste of ginger distracts my nausea - whatever - i'll still be bringing along the ginger arsenal next trip...
