So I bought all these marshmallows really cheap thinking I'd use them for rice krispie treats and it turns out I'm the world's worst rice krispy treat maker. Does anyone have any more ideas or recipies that use marshmallows?

in hot chocolate.
on top of sweet potatoes
in fruit salad
toasted!
to make smores (even in a microwave)
make fudge
make frosting

I am interested in the frosting how do you make frosting with marshmallows? Do you just melt and spread?

You can't just melt marshmallows and spread on a cake. What a mess that would make. Do a google search for marshmallow frosting or icing. You'll find a number of recipes.

Marshmallows freeze really well, so while you're trying to figure out what to do with them, pop them in there (we store them in the freezer permanently and only pop a few out at a time to drop into our hot chocolate). GL!

What kind of problem are you having making the rice krispy treats?

The trick is to take your time. Melt the butter in a nonstick saucepan, then add the marshmallows and turn the heat down to very low. Stir occasionally. When they are all melted, remove from the heat and add the cereal, using a folding motion to incorporate the cereal. Dump it into a buttered dish and let cool before covering.

My kids and their friends always loved these and I still make a pan for them to take over to their friends' houses sometimes and they are teens now.

After removing the marshmallow mixture from the heat, add 1 tsp vanilla or almond extract and and a "pinch" of sea salt. everyone always asks why my rice krispy treats taste better. ;)

An alternate recipe for Rice Krispie Squares is a the Ambrosia fruit salad my mom used to make. It sounds disgusting, but people actually love it. It is one of DH's fave's! And, really easy. Measure into a large bowl, 1. c. of each of the following: mini marshmallows (you would have to cut yours up into 6-9 pieces each); drained canned mandarin orange sections; drained canned pineapple tidbits; shredded sweetened dried coconut; sour cream. Stir gently to combine, refrigerate 1 hr. before serving.

Gigi's recipe reminds me that I have a similar one using marshmallows (also sounding gross but tasting delish, lol): Caramel Apple Salad.

Combine 1 cup of small marshmallows, 1 can drained pineapple tidbits, 1 cup of chopped apples (I always use green for the tartness), 1 packet of butterscotch pudding and most of one tub of softened Cool Whip (how much you add depends on how you'd like the consistency in the end). Keep refrigerated until ready to serve. Enjoy!

I don't know how you feel about food as crafts or if you have any school age kids who do crafts/projects, but we have had some amazing designs making things out of mini-marshmallows & toothpicks or full size and straws. started as a scout project and they haven't stopped.

I store my marshmallows in the freezer until I need them - they don't stick together that way.

How about an Ambrosia recipe: (Sorry, Gigi - didn't see your version of this recipe)

1 pint heavy cream, whipped with sugar and vanilla
1/2 bag mini marshmallows (or use oiled scissors to snip big ones into pieces)
1 can crushed pineapple, chilled and drained (save the juice in case it's too dry)

My cousin adds shredded coconut as well, an aunt uses mandarin oranges. A friend added 1/2 jar of maraschino cherries, but I thought it was too sweet that way.

Whip the cream, fold in the marshmallows, pineapple and whatever other things you want. Chill for 1-2 hours then serve in dessert cups.

Marshmallow gun ammo. I'm trying to convince my sister to make these at my nephews party this spring!

marshmallow fondant (I personally haven't tried to make it but a friend did and loved it) Google recipe.

Chocolate dipped Marshmallows (put a craft/lollipop stick in marshmallow, dip in melted chocolate, roll in sprinkles. Put on waxed paper to harden).

I too have a lot of marshmallows on hand, jumbo sized and a warehouse size of minis that I was going to use for Snowman Poop at Christmas and never got around to it. Will probably make the Rice Krispy Treats, though...

Do a Google search for Smores Cookie Bars. I think it's a Betty Crocker recipe. Super easy and sooooo good!!!

I've used them to frost cupcakes. This doesn't work for mini marshmallows but the large ones come out great. All you need to do is take your cupcakes out of the oven about 2 or 3 mins before they're done, put a marshmallow on top and pop them back in the oven until they start to puff up. I just made some a few days ago because I didn't feel like making frosting and they came out great. I smushed the marshmallow down to spread it out a little after I took them out of the oven with a small peice of graham cracker because they were s'more-esque cupcakes.

I wouldn't suggest doing this on a large cake but definitely a fun alternative for cupcakes!

Thanks I will try again mine are so sticky I can't get them in the pan and then they are really hard when then cool

Glad to know I am not the only one who can't make rice krispie treats!
