inspired by the next Wednesday thread, dh and I have a little disagreement about this. just a minor thing, but every summer it comes up. we laugh about it, each insisting we are the correct party.

if you want the house to be colder, do you turn the ac up or down?

I crank the ac up by turning the thermostat down :rotfl2:

ETA: So I voted other and, no, my ac does not have a handcrank to turn.

:rotfl: Dh and I have had this conversation.

I do say "turn the ac up to mean make it colder in here!".

He says "turning the thermostat up makes it warmer!"

I do say turn the air up not turn the temperature up so it makes sense to me! I also say turn the heat up meaning I want more heat so turn the air up means I want more air, in my mind anyway.

When we want it colder we turn the air down. When we want it hotter we turn the air up. It makes perfect sense because pressing the down button on the thermostat makes it colder, etc.

My father-in-law used to say: "Go put another log on the air conditioner.". I miss that man. :-)

We turn the TEMPERATURE on the thermostat 'Down'.
Or, we turn the AC air conditioning 'Up'. (more Air conditioning)

Just semantics!!!!

:thumbsup2 We turn the air down for cooler and up for warmer.

You turn the Air Conditioner (which makes a house colder) UP to make a house colder. You also turn the HEAT up, or in some cases, the THERMOSTAT up.

Turning the air UP means increasing the AC, resulting in a colder temperature. My ex Wife used to turn the air to 60 degrees or so, thinking "it will cool off faster". Notice I said ex.

We turn the air conditioning DOWN to make the house colder - like if it's set for 72, I'll turn it DOWN to 70 so it will get cooler - the degrees are going DOWN.

We turn the heat UP to make the house warmer - if it's set for 68, I'll turn it UP to 70 so it will get warmer - the degrees are going UP.

Also, our thermostat has little arrows - the UP arrow is to increase the temperature; the DOWN arrow is to decrease the temperature.

I always turn the a/c UP when I need to cool off the house.

If it gets too cold, I turn it DOWN!!
