To Golf Cart or not to Golf Cart? This is the Question.

We have been at the cabins 4 times and have never used a cart. We have walked from one end of the campground to the other looking at christmas decorations and it wasn't bad at all. If you are not in a hurry bus transportation is fine.

If you are actually in the 1400 loop...I don't feel it would be necessary..a nice thing to have..but you are close enough to the campground amenties not to "need" one.
Which having stayed in the cabin loops...I personally would not stay without one. They are very removed from any of the main amenties that the campground offers. We didn't rent one..and found waiting for a bus just to get to the pool(in the August heat) was more than we wanted to deal with on a "vacation". Our kids were quite young at the time also.
Have yet to bring our Travel trailer to FW..very much want to...and if and when we do..we also have planed a 1400 loop request..as we have found this to be close to the Meadow Pool and trading post. We are also planning on bringing the bikes..and also have a couple of battery operated bikes...if I could get a good rate from the outside company ..that's an option also. I would like the option of the golf cart..but in my opinion it probably isn't as necessary as it would be to me staying in one of the cabin loops or a loop further from the Meadow area.

I am not sure where we will be - except that we will have a cabin, but there is a pool close to the cabins too. I cancelled our reservation for one. That money is much better off in other places.

Every year we always rent a cart. I do this from:

Golf Cart Enterprises
14520 W. Colonial Dr

Winter Garden, FL 34787

(407) 656-0995

Fax (407) 656-1745

We always rent a gas powered one, with a windshield, so we don't have to fight of the charging recepticles at Pioner Hall, Outpost, Marina etc.

I take my 7' long ATV ramps that I got at Lowes. On the way in I stop at GCE and load the cart in the back of my truck. This way I save the trailer rental fee. ($50 roundtrip)

Our total rental for 14 days is $330/ $165 a week.

One thing to keep in mind is that they are not open on weekends. So we always plan on our trips to check in/out on Fridays.

I hope this helps.

I changed my mind AGAIN and decided to reserve one just in case. Our big problem is that we have three little ones with us, and my dh and I are not in the greatest shape you ever saw, so they told me that I could cancel without penalty if we felt we would not need it.

Still hoping that God will drop about $5000 out of the sky into our laps!

For the cost of the golf cart, you can stay at a moderate or deluxe instead of camping..... if cost was the reason for camping.

Hey FW fan:

We are renting from GCE in June. Is your truck 2wd or 4wd, tire size?? My DH thinks the angle on our 4wd f-350 would make the cart high center with our atv ramp. I sure would like to save the $50......

My truck is a 2001 F250 4X4 Crew Cab Long Bed with a 2" leveling kit on the front. It has LT315/75R16 (35")tires on it. I do take my drive on ramps and put them under my front wheels of my truck. This drops the rear tailgate slightly and changes the approach angle. The cart barely high centers in mine(without the front ramps) but I figured that was due to the height increase with my truck.

We have one reserved, too. We figure if cash is tight, we can cancel it 24 hours ahead of time with no problems.

If we are good on cash, we'll keep it to avoid the hassle of multiple busses with two small children. There's a lot we want to do at the campground, campfire, petting zoo, nature trails, eat, that require a lot of traveling around and we are far out of the way in the cabin loops. I guess we'll just see how broke we are feeling.

VERY good point, auntie!! I have never been there in the heat, and so I didn't even think of that. During the cooler weather I found walking around the campground very enjoyable, but I wouldn't do well with all that walking and waiting in the heat.

Doesn't it really just come down to if you can afford it, why not rent one...if you can't afford it, take the bus?

Yep, that's what I think! :teacher:

:moped: We Spend $329.00 on a cart we used about 1 full day total. After thinking about if it was a waste of money we just drove it late at night just to justfy the cost. I can afford it but sometime just don't want to waste money.

How many people do the carts carry? I'm used the the golf carts at golf courses which seat 2. I'm guessing the carts at FTW must accommodate at least 4 right?

FW is absolutely our favorite place to stay. In fact, we're going back in January.
At various times over the past 20 years we've visited with relatives of varying ages from less than one year to almost seventy but we've never rented a cart -- We've either walked ( a great way to de-stress after the hustle and bustle of the parks) or used the busses. I can honestly say we've never felt deprived either. I vote with the fella who noted you can buy a whole lotta mickey pops with $300. (For me, that much ice-cream would absolutely MANDATE that I walk rather than drive! LOL!)

For us, it was so blazing hot and buggy that we needed it. I mean really needed it. We fit my Dh driving with the two boys in the front and me and the baby in the back. We used it a lot. I have a condition that makes a lot of walking uncomfortable, but the cart was surely a lifesaver for us!

Well the money we saved from not getting a cart. We came back weeks later and stayed 4 nights at FW on the savings. :cool1:

The carts have room for two adults in the front and two in the back. I have seen, during my recent visit, that the capacity of the cart can far exceed that. We ended up buying a used cart off Ebay and using it. It was only going to be $30 more to buy the used one than to pay for the 9 days. I am not advacating everyone do this, but my 19mo old absolutely had to have his cart ride every morning. If you are going to stay in FW and not go to the parks much during the summer, the cart definitely helps. Ultimately, it depends on your finances.
