Char (disneyfan255) is my Girl Scout troop co-leader and dear friend. She had mentioned that she was going to post an update to this area of the board so I wanted to pop in and retrieve it - just in case I ever decide to scrap something on this. Although this is one of those events I'm sure I could do.
On March 29th Dad took Mom into the ER because she was having a great deal of difficulty focusing and responding to him. She has dealt with numerous health problems over many years and initially the thought was that she had an adverse reaction to a new medication.
She was admitted to ICU that afternoon. On Tuesday her respiration became endangered and she became less responsive. At that time she was put on a ventilator and we were advised to call my brother home from California. He arrived On Wed. March 31 and over the following week and a half we spent our days in the ICU area - the family waiting room and Mom's room as we were able.
Perhaps a lot of mileage on rough roads due to her numerous health problems is the most accurate way we will ever be able to describe what took Mom. She was a nurse of the old school and no one will ever know what she may have been exposed to over those years as a truely dedicated caregiver. At the end we were told she no longer had higher level brain functions working and are greatful she didn't linger longer than she did - Mom was always one to be involved in what was going on around her intellectually, even when she could no longer physically do the many activities she loved.
I appreciate all of the thoughts and prayers you've sent our way. Knowing those are out there has helped me and my family get through the last several weeks, and will help us get through the next days, weeks, and months.
