I've read that it's better (faster) to drive to all of the parks except for the MK instead of taking the Disney buses from FW. How many find that this is true? We're planning on going to the parks early in the morning, then heading back to the campground for a little R & R, then back to the parks in the evening. What do you think?

I've always driven because I have 4 kids ranging in ages 4-13 its easier to get in our own car, have snacks and drinks in the cooler and we take a moment to breath in our own space when we get to the car.

Just depends on how patience you are, we alway drive because to us we get everywhere so much faster...we gotta go..go..go :moped:

I'm also thinking that driving would be better.....More convenient and faster. Actually, faster is what it's all about! :thumbsup2

Disney literature recommends to count on an hour total to take buses to your destinations, and as a whole, I find this to be accurate. A lot depends on the size of the crowds at the time you are here, too. We usually drive into the parks.

Just remember that when you drive, you either have to wait for a tram to take you to the entrance or hike to the entrance - which can be a considerable hike depending upon where you have to park.

If you made your ressies thru AAA, check into the AAA Diamond Parking Pass. It gets you a preferred parking space - often by the handicapped parking.

I think part of the ambiance of WDW is using the transportation. It's fun to talk to the other people, sometimes offer advice to new visitors and see the excitement in the faces of the kids. Now I will admit it can be tedious when the buses are crowded, but my favorite are the boats, any of them. I enjoy the ride back to our resort ( FW or any of them ) and not worry about the traffic ( read, take a nap ). :rolleyes1

If I'm reading my literature right, the most convenient park to get to from FW is the MK by using the boat. Do the Disney experts (you guys!) agree? Thanks! :surfweb:

The best way to get to the MK is the boat.

We like to take transportation in the morning and take the car in the afternoon. WE never take the car to the MK beacuse when you park you will still have to take a tram then a boat or the monorail.. All the other parks you will only have to walk or take a tram. The car in the afternoon is great beacuse usually people leave the park and there are close parking spaces.

I think I'm missing something --- how do you take the transportation in the morning and the car in the afternoon? Oooooo .... I bet you mean you take Disney transportation in the morning, come back for a break, and then take the car in the afternoon. Hee Hee...I get it now.

We do that for AK and sometimes EPCOT/MGM, but it's not really consistent. If we plan to stay for park closing we always rely on the park transportation if it's during the busy season which is when we are usually there. You have the option so try out both ways and see what fits your style better. If I had little one's the driving in the evening might be better since I've seen a lot of really beat little ones on the 10PM to midnight buses trying to get to where they are going. I almost feel worse for the adult than the little one since the little ones who are just so sleepy make the adults holding them, etc. that more uncomfortable.

We consider the buses, boats, and monorails to be part of the Disney fun! We park our car at our site, and it doesn't move til we pack up and go home!

Yes, it can take awhile to get to Epcot or MGM, but that's ok with us. We're early risers, so we always have plenty of time to get there by the time the gates are opened in the morning.

We like the monorails, so we take the boat to the MK, then hop the monorail to the TTC, then transfer to an Epcot monorail. The monorails are an "attraction" all by themselves! :goodvibes
